BYO Recipe:

Shakespeare Stout Clone:
OG: 1.061 FG: 1.015
IBU: 70 SRM: 68 ABV: 6%

9.5# pale ale (2L, 72%)
1.25# English Chocolate Malt (450L, 9.5%)
1# Roasted Barley (300L, 7.5%)
0.75# English Extra Dark Crystal (150L, 5.5%)
0.67# Flaked Oats (1L, 5%)

3 oz Cascade (6.9%, 60 min)
1 oz Cascade (6.9% 10 min)

I'm gonna replace the Crystal 150L with Special B (180L)

Any thought? Anyone use Special B in a Stout before?

I think the flavors should be similar or atleast the Special B should work equally well. Check out the 08.08.08 thread. That is an imperial stout with 1# of Special B. I've got that stout on a list to brew soon.

Not to hijack this thread, but is Special B actually just a dark crystal? I was sent 2.5 lbs of 165 L crystal by mistake and have been having a hard time finding recipes to use it in.

I have 0.5 lb Special B in my stout. I was under the impression that it is just a darker crystal. I do notice lots of earthy fruits (raisins, figs, dates, etc) that are probably due to it. I think it is a good touch.
