Ok, I accidently smacked a pack of yeast without checking to see if i had any propane... how long will wyeast last in that pack at room temp after being smacked?

I have heard around three days. Depending on how long you need, go ahead and make a starter and let that sit for a day.

Indeed, if you need longer you can always let the starter ferment out and then stick it in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

I might suggest sticking it in a plastic ziploc bag. I have always worried that those things would explode.

I smacked one a full 8 days before i used it. After 3 days on the counter i put it in the fridge. The day before i went to brew i pulled it out and made a started from it and it was fine. The beer turned out great.

I'll let you know sometime next week. Smacked mine almost 2 weeks ago. It swelled up, and was in room temp for 2 days. Then I stuffed it in the back of the fridge. Next week I'll brew, so I'll make a starter on Sunday night. If it works, great. If not, oh well, I'll head to LHBS and get some more little buddies.
