Just wanted to get a clarification.....when doing a batach sparge...do I want to add 168F water.....OR do I want to add hotter water so that the mixture in the mash tun is 168F?

Hotter so the mash temp normalizes to 168.

I heat my sparge water up to about 175 and all is well.
