Taste of LME... sweet, then bitter?

So I just received an extract kit from Midwest supply. I tasted my LME before brewing and it started off sweet and then finished with a pretty bitter aftertaste. I am wondering if I received bad malt extract since I do not remember this flavor in other malt extracts I've had. Does anyone know if this is normal? Thanks
