Cinnamon Amaretto French Toast

1/2 loaf French bread
2 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 to 2 Tbsp amaretto
1/2 to 1 tsp cinnamon (or spice blend)

Cut bread into 3/4" slices (on the bias if you'd like larger pieces of bread). Beat eggs, milk, amaretto, and spices until frothy. Amaretto and spices are to taste - I probably had a bit of a heavy hand with both. I used Disaronno amaretto and a spice blend consisting of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ground orange peel, and ground ginger. Heat a griddle to about 350 degrees F. While the griddle is heating, coat all of the bread pieces with the custard mixture and allow them to rest for a few minutes to soak up the tasty goodness. Melt a bit of butter on the griddle (hey, we're not making health food here...) and cook the French toast until nicely browned (1-3 minutes per side).

Dust with powdered sugar (if desired) and serve with butter and real maple syrup. A dab of whipped cream might be nice, too.

Pair with champagne, mimosas, amaretto sours, mojitos, or a sweet Framboise.

Serves 2-4 (makes 6-8 pieces).
