I am going to Turin for a conference in September. Anyone know of any good regional selections I should sample? I'm definitely not a big fan of wine, but have heard that northern Italy has more beer than southern Italy.

Never been, but my Italian professor from college is from Torino. If I can get in contact with him, maybe he could offer advice.

I know the Italians are starting to get into some good beer making. I suspect that the only beer readily available will be Peroni or another Italian branded Light Lager.

Here is what he said:

Ciao Ed,

Good to hear from you! I'm glad everything is going well. Yes, I'm still
working at Clemson, although right now I'm teaching the Summer session at
Middlebury College, in Vermont.

I've attached a powerpoint presentation on Torino that I usually show my
students... This can give you a general idea of the city. I would also
recommend to visit the various royal palaces and castles in the outskirts
of Torino (Venaria Reale, Stupinigi, Moncalieri, Sacra di San Michele,
etc...), as well as the wine region of the Langhe. Also, if your friend
likes skiing, he should definitely check out the various ski resorts in
Val di Susa e Val Chisone! The weekly magazine "Torino Sette" offers a
complete list of cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, etc... I hope
this is useful!

A presto e buona fortuna,
Lorenzo

I can't seem to get the powerpoint uploaded. I'll try when I get home and am on a PC (I have a Mac at work).
