What should I be looking for in an electric motor for powering my grain mill?

Barley Crusher (dual adj, two roller)

HP?
RPM?
What else?

Thanks,
SD.

I re-purposed a pedestal style Sump pump motor that had a bad actuator switch. 1/2 HP, 3/8" drive shaft, 1200rpm, already wired for 110V, and cheap (mine was free, but others should be easy and cheap to find)
with a 1.5" pulley on the drive shaft and a 10" sheave on the mill, it works fantastically well. Just an idea.

Very interesting, been looking to upgrade my sump pump for this spring anyway... hmmmm.

You want to make sure your motor spins in the right direction, or can be wired to run in either direction. Otherwise, the mounting configuration gets a little tricky. (ask me how I know)
