I'm in central Maine right now, moving south to the Portland area very soon.

Central Maine! We drove... around there. Mount Katahdin! It's for Katahdid folk.

Found out I still have 45 minutes before we have to leave, decided to open gabes mystery beer, with the world's hardest to remove cork. Holy hell dude I almost had to get a set of vice grips.
Nice and tasty, slightly funky farmhouse of some sort? Either way this beer is delicious.

I usually just use a cork screw. I've started corking and capping so there isn't a choice, plus caps are cheaper than cages. You asked me about it and I told you what it was! That should be Life of the Mind b2. Wheat saison, with oats, rhubarb, coriander, brett, lacto, and dry hopped. Pulled a sample from b3 today and it's even better. I don't know why I have such hard to get out corks. I can only assume they are slightly oversized.
Haha I've snowboarded katahdin. 12 mile hike to the summit in the winter because the tote rd is closed, beautiful up there if you're ever up here again I definitely suggest taking a day to climb it. I'd gladly tour guide you, I've been up over a hundred times.

Funny story, sort of--we stayed at a bed and breakfast at a lake right at the base of the mountain. It had been rainy and cold all week, and the lake was covered in fog. The whole time we were there we had no idea there was a mountain there. Not at all. Then on the day we leave the hosts say, "Too bad you couldn't see the mountain, it's beautiful," and I say, "Mountain? What mountain?" and they show me a picture. Never saw the damn thing, and stayed right at the base of it. :fro:
You do know my memory is that of a retarded gold fish right?
I thought I could taste a bit of rhubarb but didn't want to sound like a plonker.
Is this one going commercial? It should
Looks like orange juice.
Condensation on the sight glass is an indication its getting too hot? The thermometer never felt too warm during the boil. Both the valve and glass were understandably hotter. Thought it was normal. Guess better safe than sorry. Ill order a heatshield tonight.
Yup, getting it dialed. On draft and barrel version for releases. Guys went nuts for it at homebrew club, but they also said the dreaded g-word - grapefruit! Doesn't taste a damn thing like grapefruit!
You definitely missed out. Here's some katahdin porn for ya. It's known for disappearing in the clouds. Sometimes when you are up there the visibility is less than 2 ft.
This is taken from my parents old house.
had that. Wasn't dying to buy more.mcbaumannerb said:It's okay, certainly not great...

Ok, you got me. Still kidding. Have you never had a wit beer?
Cathedral said:Condensation?! I was just thinking about placement. Your entire pot will get covered in condensation if it's a good day in America.
You should never see bubbles or any indication of boiling in your sight glass; yes it should be warm to the touch, but not burning. The level should be relatively still, compared to the insanity going on in your pot. Same with your therm: if you cant grab it for a few seconds, it's too hot.
Even with shielding, I can't turn my Blichmann burner up to max--it just puts out way too much BTU's and will nuke everything. You just have to find your medium.
and me!WesleyS said:Haha. Just kidding. Or was I? You know what'll shut me up, send me some.
I'm not getting any grapefruit, there is only a slight funk to it, more funk in the nose than in the taste. I'm getting the rhubarb, I'm getting some spice, and an excellent smooth mouthfeel.
And Wes if your orange juice tastes this good we should invest now
Haha. Just kidding. Or was I?
You know what'll shut me up, send me some.
TNGabe said:Of course you don't get grapefruit, it doesn't taste like graperfruit and you know what rhubarb tastes like!
Send you more beer? That will shut you up? You're still beating the dead horse of bubblegum only you tasted in that saison, so I highly doubt it.

Wow that sentence describing the one beer sounds like you are describing 4 beers.
