Whats my target FG?

I am brewing a Brown Ale with a SG of 1.040. Beersmith suggested a final gravity of 1.005 however I just wanted to make sure that the community agreed. This is my first batch.
And after 6 days I am at 1.012, and the yeast are still doing their thing.

1.005 sounds low. Right now, you have 70% fermentation ((40-12)/40). I'd say 1.010 would be the target...75%. But it depends on the exact recipe.
 
I am sure that it will reach 75% in the next 2 days. Would that be a good time for me to place it into the secondary?
 
I'd give it 10 days total in primary and check it again. If it's down to where you expect it to be and the activity has died down then you should be good to rack to secondary.
