Russian Imperial Stout, need help

Hey all,

I came up with this recipe for a Russian Imperial Stout, but I do not have brewing software to tell me the specific specs for the beer. If you all could give your thoughts about it that would be great. Thanks for your help.

Batch size: 3 Gallons

9# 2-Row Pale
1# Oatmeal
1# Chocolate Malt
.5# Roasted Barley
.5# Black Patent
.5# Crystal 80L

1oz Citra 60 mins
.25oz Chinook 30 mins
1oz Citra 10mins
.75oz Chinook 5mins

White Labs WLP023 Burton Ale

I'd say up the pale to 12 or 13 lbs. That's quite a bit of specialty malt for the amount of pale.

Also drop the Citra for something like warrior or magnum. Citra is very aromatic, and it's been difficult to find. I'd save it for an APA or IPA, and use something with clean bitterness like warrior and magnum. This isn't a beer where you're looking for a distinct hop aroma.

That's a crazy amount of black patent for 3 gallons. 1-3 oz would be an appropriate range (you could even omit it all together). Also, I agree with the replacement of citra with something more neutral and less fruity.
