Greetings all---

I did a p/mash yesterday ---3gal.. some sort of IPA and was going to use Whitbread Gold Variety along with Simcoe,Fuggles and Cascade. I openned the WPV and took a whiff....(I love the smell of hops) but this stuff was S T A N K Y....it didn't even smell like hops. So decided to use Kent Golding instead. (Simcoe 60m, KG 40m, Fuggles 15m and Cascade to finish.) What the hell, heres the recipe-
1.5 lb 2-row, 1.0 lb Maris Otter, 0.5 lb. Victory mashed 1hr, batch sparged 7 min., added 3.0 lb LME. sg 1061.

My question--- is WGV smell differant or did I get a bad batch?

tnx

Neil

I've never run across the type, but based on this description "Traditional English hop with a sweet and fruity aroma.", I'd say you have a small, expensive bag of compost.
