Home / craft / microbrewing in the U.S. has been in a state of growth and great change in the last few decades, as I'm sure everyone reading this knows. Such a state of flux is always accompanied by goings as well as comings....this is what is happening here.

Our local experience bears this out. 15 years ago, we had two microbreweries. They disappeared about 10 years ago, and I've never heard an explanation why. Difficult to comprehend, since it's a large college town (U of I at Champaign-Urbana). There was NO LHBS until a big chain liquor store opened a few years ago (Friar Tuck's) and offered a line of homebrewing supplies. Now we have no fewer than TWO microbreweries that are opening this Fall, in the middle of a recession. Go figure.
