- Balanced malt and hops, deceptively strong while easy to drink
13 lbs Dingeman's Pale Malt
1 lbs Crystal 120
Columbus (14.4%) - 0.5 oz - 60 mins
Cascade (5.4%) - 1.5 oz - 60 mins
Cascade - 1 oz - 15 mins
Cascade - 1 oz - 10 mins
Cascade - 1 oz - 5 mins
Cascade - 1 oz - 1 mins
Columbus - 0.5 oz - Dry - 1 week
Cascade - 1 oz - Dry - 1 week
Nottingham yeast - harvested about 3/4 cups of thick slurry from previous batch
Mash 151 F
Ferment 65 F
I like the way the dark malt compliments the bitterness. It lends a nice body to the beer even with the low FG. This beer won 1st place at the Cuyahoga County Fair in Ohio last week. Here are some of the BJCP judges overall comments:
"I like this beer a lot - not overbearing, but balanced nicely. I could drink a lot of these."
"Nicely made beer. You've pushed your dark malts to the limit, but it's nice. If any more dark malt, it would be too roast-y (especially on the finish), but this works. Nice use of hops although I wouldn't object to a slight increase in aroma hops."
