Hi,

I would want to know if there is a way to calculate the IBU in a laboratory instead of with a formula

Thank you all

The calculation is trivial. It's 50 times the absorbance in 1 cm at 275nm.

There is only 1 alcohol involved (octanol) and so little is used (the pipet tip used to measure out the beer sample is dipped in it and shaken off) that 100 brewers could share a $35 liter and have a lifetime supply. The solvent, if you buy it in spectrographic grade is expensive but the per test cost is small. You can filter or distill (please don't!) ordinary gasoline and use that reducing the cost even further but it hardly seems worth the effort to save a couple of bucks.
