Wireless homebrew system no IP

I searched the forums to see if it has been done but I have not seen anything.

Has anyone made a homebrew system that can be controlled VIA Xbee communications? This way you don't need internet/router to control your system. And Xbee is very open sourced.

Just wondering if anyone has notes or has started this project before I do.

So, the base communication module would just be a serial connection? And it would be limited to a intranet type system?

Well, you could also implement Lantronix matchport for wireless networking if you wanted. It was just an idea I get bored and like to tinker. Plus I have all kinds of Xbee/matchport/Arduino products around
