I'm about to rack a smoked porter to secondary, I know I don't "need" the gelatin but I figured what the heck. Anyway, as I started getting it dissolved, I noticed two things: 1) it's bright red in color 2) it smells like fake strawberry. I re-read the label and sure enough, it says "unflavored" and the ingredients only list "gelatin". I would consider this a packing error or something because I don't remember unflavored gelatin being red and smelling of fake strawberries. I'm just glad I didn't add it to my beer!

Definitely sounds like a packaging error. It should be more or less colourless (at least Knox brand is).
