<newbie AG alert>
First I searched here and it obviously looks like I can use Wort for a starter. But here is my question... I have about 3lbs of Pale Malt grains that I won't be using for my AG batch... so what would your recommendations of grain to water for creating a small wort for my starter. Does it really matter?
My Stab:
1lb of grain - mash with 2.5L of water for 40min rest (@158) - then filter - and boil for ~30-40mins or so? Getting me ~1.5L of wort... chill and pitch yeast.
Reason for this:
1. I mistakenly bought a propogator pack of yeast (Scotch ale 1728)
2. give me a little practice in the process of AG before my first AG.
3. have the extra grain - and DME is really $$$ for how much I need.
4. Thought about Malta Goya - and is definately a backup idea, but I dont like the idea of all the extra stuff in it.
