Just another reason to install a water filter. I have a kent marine Cati/Ani Deion 200R filter for my fish tanks, and it removes virtually every contaminant from our tap water without a reverse osmosis membrane. It can push about five gallons a minute with no waste water and has recharging media held in three post-type filter canisters. When the media exhausts, you can recharge it with muriatic acid (pool acid).

Readings on my calibrated hydroponic TDS meter show zero dissolved solids in the product water produced by the 200R. It's the shiz. Another product that works well is the kold steril II filter developed by poly bio marine. It uses technology developed for creating dialysis-pure source water in a home unit. No waste water, it produces clean brewing water by using rechargeable filter pad media. I can confirm that some major breweries use this same filtration setup to produce consistent brewing water in any state or country.
