The reason I ask is i was going to try back sweetening, at bottleing time, a gallon batch of cider with some vernors ginger ale. Has anyone done this? Are there any preservatives in soda that would make it non fermentable?

I believe that it will ferment. I know that BYO had a Mountain Dew beer once, and someone around here fermented coca cola. I'm not sure how fermentable high fructose corn sugar is, but I assume it'd ferment fully.

You could try diet soda if you wanted to add something that wouldn't ferment.
