So, yesterday I made a 1 l starter...followed process and sanitizing rules...100 grams DME to 1000 ml water. I cooled to 70 degrees, then gave a shake 1-2 times every hour. Didn't see any activity, no krausen, but I foolishly used a dark brown growler! At 11 pm, still no signs of life. Went to bed feeling defeated. This morning there's a 1 1/2 inch cake at the bottom of the growler. Did I successfully make me a starter? or could that be DME that settled out? If it did work, do I pitch the whole growler? If it didn't, do I try to pitch anyway? I don't have any other yeast.
