    Imperial Stout Recipe

First crack at a RIS, I think I'm pretty much ready to go, but wanted to get some feedback on the recipe. 19# Marris Otter .75# Chocolate Malt .75# Flaked Oats .66#...

Tired of kits. How to make from scratch?

I recently started developing my own recipes after upgrading to all grain. What has been helpful to me is to start simple, research the style I want to brew, try to find recipes for commercial examples of that style that I would like to emulate and use brewing software. I wanted to make an...

    Hop Addition Method

I have always added hops in small muslin bags to make it easy to get them out of the kettle, but I have always wondered if this will affect the overall hop utilization. Does anyone have any insight on how this impacts the end product, if at all? What other methods do you use when adding hops...

    Texas Beer for Trade

We just got creme brulee and pumpking in san antonio, which is a bit of a drive from dallas, but I'd be willing to bet that if they're not in dallas they would be in austin at least

    splitting secondary

I was planning on waiting about 2 weeks before transferring, but in the interest of minimizing oxygenation, perhaps transferring sooner would be a good idea?

    splitting secondary

I don't normally do a secondary fermentation but I recently brewed an imperial stout and would like to let it sit a few months before bottling. I would also like to add a little something (oak, vanilla, coffee) to add a little depth. I am considering splitting the secondary into 4 or 5 separate...

    recipe app

I'm at work pretty much all the time so I don't get a chance to work on beer stuff unless I get a day off, but I think about brewing all the time, and I wish I could access my recipes while at work. I have a feeling I'm not the only one with this issue, so how does everyone deal with this? Is...

    Beerfest 2

I seem to remember hearing about broken lizard making a new movie. While I don't recall what it was, I don't think it was beerfest 2

    hop bag in primary

Well I try to leave as much room as possible in the bag to allow the hops room to expand and hopefully be fully utilized. I went to this method after using a big mesh bag to strain the entire boil for several brews that ended up a bit watered down tasting, and all I could come up with is I was...

    hop bag in primary

So I have started putting my hops in a muslin bag to make the straining process at the end of the boil easier. My last brew day I think left a bag in when I poured the wort into my primary fermenter. It's probably a RDWHAHB scenario, but is there any chance for infection? The bag was in the...

    cherry imperial stout

Well I'm basing the whole cherry stout off of left hand's wake up dead stout. I didn't even notice the cherry flavor until I was half way through the glass. I also would like to add some wood chips but I think I'll try one thing at a time

    cherry imperial stout

I made an imperial stout last year that came out really well and I was thinking of trying it again but with some cherries. I don't want much cherry flavor, just enough to add some complexity to the beer. My issues are as follows: I've never added fruit to a beer and don't know when to do it...

    Books

Just finished a book called "Beat the Reaper" by Josh Bazell. Awesome story about a new MD who had mob ties. Really interesting medical stuff tied in with tense action. I just wish it was longer!

    single dial regulator

Awesome that's a huge help! So I don't have the means to cool it now but I'd like to set it to the correct psi for the cooler temp and let it carb. Will that work, or does it need to be at the target temperature when I start carbing?
