    Preventing mash cooler from warping

Sooner or later it happens from all the posts I've read but some seem to avoid it somehow. Better quality coolers warp and cheaper don't and then sometimes it's the other way around. Any thoughts on preventing it? Avoiding really hot water is obvious but what has worked for folks? Add water to...

    WTB stainless sparge arm

Looking to buy a spinning stainless sparge arm if anyone has one they are no longer using. Williams has them for $29 but I'm gonna take it apart for a custom project so would rather spend a little less. Thanks

Small space brew stands and equipment storage

Want to start a thread for people to share their ideas and pictures of their small space breweries. We all are not blessed with brewing rooms, basements, shops, garages etc and think we can learn a little from each other. I live in a small rental house that is less than 900 sq ft and will be...

HERMS coil mounting - thru the lid or thru the side

I have a 10 gallon Blichmann Boil Kettle that I would like to add a stainless HERMS/chiller coil in. I was going to mount it in the kettle with arms of the coil going up and thru the side above the liquid level to avoid the necessity of completely leak proof fittings and to aid easy removal for...

Current source of gear motor for mill?

There is a lot of great motorized mill posts and info but most of the motor sources are old links and the motors are no longer available. I've spent countless hours on ebay only to find right RPM but wrong torque, right torque but RPM way off or voltages that aren't standard. Most frustrating is...

Simple conversion formula for No Sparge?

Interested in doing some no sparge brewing since I like maltier beers and have read it works well for that. My problem is converting a standard all-grain recipe. Seems most of the brewing software and apps don't have a "no sparge" profile so it's hit and miss with knowing how much extra grain is...

    10 gallon Blichmann Lid replacement

Thinking about adding a HERMS coil and mixer to my 10 gallon Blichmann and wondering if anyone has found a flat replacement lid? The lid that comes with the Blichmann is domed and would make mounting a mixer difficult. Notching for the HERMS coil isn't bad but a flat lid would make mounting the...

Any good sources for process program examples for the BCS-460/462? New to this. Also is anyone using its DINS inputs for anything?

    Brewtroller help

I'm considering going the Brewtroller route for my system but have some questions. 1. Any Mac based software for control or firmware updates? 2. Any hopes or news of web interface? 3. Anyone know what the cutout dimension is for the 20x4 LCD? Any pre-made snap-in style of bezels for the...

P-J deserves some kind of award

P-J is an awesome contributor and has helped countless numbers of home brewers that have decided to venture down the electric brewing road, myself included. If you think about it he has most likely prevented numerous fires, toasted panels and a few electrocutions. Hats off and raising a beer...

    BSC-460 options

Looking to move beyond PIDs for a bit more control and data recording but Brewtroller is too DIY for me and looking at the BSC-460 it seems that it requires a fair amount of knowledge to program processes. And if I'm not mistaken you loose what you've done if you update the firmware. Any other...

    Calculating current draw

Wondering how to calculate current draw when you use a 240V element on 120V? Using a 240V 5500W element on 120V. I know the wattage is approximately quartered but do then use normal calculation for current draw? 1375/120=11.433333?

    Heating strike water with RIMS

I have seen some threads on this but they don't seem to directly address it or they die out. Hopefully someone has done this and can share their experiences. My system build is still far from complete so I can't experiment. Here is the thought process... 4500W or 5500W 240V LWD element...

Switching elements between 120V and 240V??

I have a simple RIMS setup with a 4500W 240V element in both the boil kettle and RIMS tube. BCS-460 with SSRs for each element. The last couple times I have moved into new apartments I have been faced with a 3 wire 240V range outlet which worked ok and now a range outlet that is not...

Fully assembled DIN rail terminal blocks

I have five of these. Didn't know I had bought a lot of 6 on eBay (guess that's why they were spendy) and I only needed one for my control panel. Brand new, in the box Altech Connectwell series terminal block assemblies. Use as is, for parts and add to it. $20 each plus shipping...
