Heat stick messed up my thermometer

I just built a 1440w heat stick. On the initial test I submerged the element and rested it on my thermometers probe. The water temp started out at 100° After a minute of the element touching it, it read 60° It stays 40° cooler throughout the entire range. Any ideas why this happened?

Rust Spots On Stainless Brew Pot

I just cleaned the inside of my brew pot with an s.o.s. pad, then boiled some water in it. Before I added water, I rinsed and dried it out so I don't see how any s.o.s. pad pieces could have still been in the pot. But alas... Rust spots could't be removed with intense scrubbing with...

Just a heads up, right now Coca Cola is selling 4 packs of 9.3 oz bottles. They have a green/blue tint to them with a retro logo in raised glass.

    Infected Krausen?

I just looked at a Brewers Best Russian Imperial Stout I put in the primary three days ago. Here is what I found. http://www.flickr.com/photos/73564614@N00/6346760740/sizes/l/in/photostream/ It looks like a white gooey gel like substance. It's sitting in three spots of dried krausen on...

Brass Ball Valve For Brew Pot?

I'm not sure where to put this, but it sounds like more of a beginners question to me. I spend the morning calling hardware stores looking for stainless steel ball valves. They all say their valves are brass on the outside and SS on the inside. To me it makes no difference on what it's made of...

    Air Lock BLEW Out

When I got home today I found stout splatters all over the walls and ceiling of my closet. The stout I started last night generated enough pressure to blow my airlock out! It probably sat like this for hours, do you think it'll survive?

    Air Lock BLEW Out!

I came home to quite a mess today. Last night, I started brewing Brewers Best Milk Stout. This morning at 6AM there was a thin layer of foam, maybe a half inch. It was nice to see the yeastie beasties working. Unfortunately the air lock didn't stay in place. This being my second stout, I...
