    Buttered Popcorn Flavor???

Holy buttered popcorn batman!! I have brewed 3 all-grain recipes in the last 3 months, and ALL of them have this "off flavor" of buttered popcorn. Now, the lager I tried to make, I froze by accident becuase I did not program my "programmable thermostat" correctly. I thawed it out, pitched...

    Fermenting Bucket Smells Like Hops

WHOA there buddy. Stop with the scrub-a-dub-dubbing, that's bad for the bucket. Scratches, scrapes, cuts etc will allow for contaminates to settle in there and start breeding some nasty, nasty things. The hops aroma is not a bad thing at all, so no worries there. Brew on my friend:mug:

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Well....there you go! I never knew people brewed in batches smaller than 5 gallons. I was introduced to this craft doing 5 gallons at a time. I love having 2 cases of beer when I am finished.

What is wrong with my beer

you do realize that the definition of insanity is repeatedly doing the same actions and expecting different results. Sometimes, the best way to solve an issue is to clear the desk and start over. Perhaps it's time to get new buckets, hoses etc. I know its not cheap and sucks, but honestly if I...

    post home brew stomach cramps

LMAO this has got to be the funniest thread I have read here!!! OMG my side hurts!! My wife gives me "beano" when I toss back a few of my home brews. There are some nights where I could blow the sheets off the bed, and other nights when the ninja-farts come out (silent and deadly). Its yeast...

    All this work...for nothin'

Today at 2:17am there was a disturbance in the force..now I know what it was. I could hear the sounds of wailing, cursing and taps in the wee hours of the morning. R I P beer, you will be sorely missed.

I am already a beer snob! how?

HA HA HA...dude I have found myself in the same boat. My father introduced me to Pilsner Urquell when I was 21 and I never looked back. I have always enjoyed the darker beers and Pilsner Urquell. My friends always drink that carbonated piss water known as Bud Light, Coors, and Natural Light...

whats going on with my brew?

Throwing away beer because it does not look right is paramount to alcohol abuse :) Just chill and let the ber do what it is gonna do. Darken, lighten...whatever. If the beer tastes good, then drink it. Unless you are going to enter your beer into a contest don't sweat the color etc. I have...

Teenagers in house - how to secure kegs?

demystifying alcohol seems to be the best way to go. Education can lessen the draw and attraction to your beer better than any lock can. I educate my son about alcohol (he is 7) and include him in the whole process of brewing. He's great with helping clean the equipment and when I was bottling...

    Shelf Life?

Keg Beer coming out at Mach-1

I used the amount of priming sugar that came with the kit...I am not too sure about the amount but it has never given me results like this before when I bottled the beer. The portable Co2 charger I am using takes a 16g Co2 canister and attanches to the keg with the same ball lock adaptor for...

Keg Beer coming out at Mach-1

Holy Mount Saint Hellens batman!!! So here is the scoop: 1. I fermented mt Dunkelweizen for ~3 weeks. 2. Then I transferred the beer into a 5 gal keg with priming sugar for carbonation 3. It has been about 1 week and I wanted to "test" the beer to see if it was ready to put into the...

    Sugar Do's and Dont's

When I am priming my beer for carbonation, I want to experiment with using different sugars. Does anyone know where I can get a conversion table for this process for the varied sugars out there? (i.e. Brown sugar, honey etc...) I would imagine that I will need to also prepare these sugar...

    Dunkelweizen Question

UPDATE: We are on day 7 of batch #3 of the Dunkelweizen. The fermentation process has slowed to a crawl...getting some bubbles in my airlock every 20 min or so. It has been sitting in a water bath, maintained at 68-F. I can smell the banana tones and it smells incredible! I bottled my American...

    Playing GOD with Alcohol

Thank everyone...I appreciate the insight. I have been brewing kits for a while now and was just thinking that maybe I would start to venture out a little and try to get creative with alcohol %'s and what not. By reading more of these threads, I can clearly see that there is allot I have to...
