A label for my latest brew. :)

Fermenting. :p It'll be ready in a few weeks. I'm glad I worked from home yesterday because I had to install a blow off tube. Wife was getting antsy when the krausen was starting to bubble out of the air lock.

A label for my latest brew. :)

Please let me know what you think. I tend to stay simple with my labels. Probably due to my lack of artistic ability. :)

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

39075 pounds of apples is 19.5 tons. Kinda puts it in perspective. Tonight I'll be cracking the first bottle from my batch. :)

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

    I put my 5 gallons in the fermenter last night. :) 5 + 1926 = 1931

Question that I haven't found yet in the Apfelwein threads. :)

I'm getting ready to make a batch of EdWort's Apfelwein, however, SWMBO does NOT like dry drinks. I read in the original thread that some people use splenda to sweeten it a bit (I will be bottle carbing my batch). Any idea how much I should add to a 5 gallon batch? At this point I think...

Wine coolers, or something like it?

I was thinking of trying some hard lemonade this coming weekend, however, after reading about yeast problems I was steering away from it. Then I thought of something. Has anyone here ever just taken some frozen concentrate, dumped it into some water and fermented it with a low attenuation...

How much Vanilla extract do I add?

I just brewed an Irish Stout yesterday from a Brewer's Best kit. The only reason I went with a kit is because my LHBS didn't have the Crystal 60L and the Black Patent pre-crushed already so it cost me a few $ more. I want to take this kit and take it from an Irish Stout to a Vanilla Irish...

    sugar?

I'm still a newb, only brewed 3 batches but I don't think the priming corn sugar or DME will give you much more than like 3 points, if even that.

    Homebrewer's etiquite!

I haven't picked on yet. :) I'll do my serious search this weekend. I may do like my other brews, and get a feel for the style by looking at different recipes and then just use BeerSmith to put my own ingredients together. :) Thanks for all of the opinions. :)

    Homebrewer's etiquite!

I have a question about Homebrewing etiquite. Generally speaking, how much does a recipe have to change before you can give it your own name? My first 2 batches were my own recipe (extracts) and my 3rd will also be my own (lawnmower beer). However, the batch I will be brewing May 12th I...

German Alt with FG of 1.020????

Was your 1lb of Amber DME Laaglander's by chance? My first batch used 3lbs of Coopers LME and 1lb of Amber DME. I used Laaglander's not knowing any better and the beer finished at 1.026 (it started at 1.052). Laaglander's is only about 50% fermentable compared to 75% with other extracts.

If someone is looking to upgrade...

In that case it'd be time to find a new SWMBO. :D

Extract addition in last 15min of boil?

After reading this thread for the 2nd time today I'm still left wondering if you get better clarity from a full boil or from a late addition. There seems to be quite a few conflicting opinions. :D I'm going to brew an extract brew this weekend. My first IPA was somewhat cloudy but I didn't...

    Root beer question. :)

In order for it to be sweet there has to be large quantities of unfermented sugar in the root beer. Yeast + large quantities of unfermented sugar = exploding bottles. It's fine if you keg, but I don't. In talking to my dad, in the old days my grandparents used to make rootbeer and put...

    Root beer question. :)

Well, I don't have a recipe.. My plan is simple. Put 4 gallons of water in my bottling bucket. Add root beer extract, Splenda and, Lactose (for body and creaminess) to taste. Prime with 3oz of corn sugar, pitch 15g of dry coopers ale yeast and mix good. Then bottle and wait to see what...

    Root beer question. :)

I want to try to bottle 4 gallons of diet rootbeer using baking splenda as sweetener. At this poing my plan is to just put 4 gallons of water in the bottling bucket and add rootbeer extract and splenda to taste, then add priming sugar to the bucket, mix in well, add yeast and bottle. Since I...

1st Brew and Gravity is stuck

A quick question, was your DME Laaglander's? If so this will be the reason for your FG remaining high. My first brew was done with Laaglander's Amber DME and my FG was stuck at 1.024 and I was worried until someone asked me if I'd used Laaglander's. ;) Laaglander's is only about 50-55%...

    Beer Brewing software

I'm using the beer smith trial and I'm going to be buying. It's a great tool. I tried Promash and didn't like it.

    "Bottling" in mason jar mugs?
