    can you condition in growlers?

I too, often condition in growlers. Have been doing so for some time. I wouldn't dispute the advice from the more seasoned brewers on here, but in my experience I have never had a problem. You obviously run a little risk, but based off my experience, it works for me. I'm sure once I have my...

Had to use bottling bucket as primary, need some help.

Does anyone know what is specific about the design that makes the bottles more condusive to handling the pressure? I'm a simple man and think in simple terms, which probably means my thought process is wrong. I always assumed the main factor in the durability of a glass ie not blowing up under...

Had to use bottling bucket as primary, need some help.

I've heard several differing opinions on using growlers to bottle, and I certainly understand the cons, and/or potential mishaps. Having said that, I have bottled into growlers for carbing for years (going back to my Mr. Beer days) and never had any problem whatsoever. I suppose I'll learn...

Had to use bottling bucket as primary, need some help.

That's a good thought, that for some reason or the other didn't cross my mind. I did just realize that I have an old Mr. Beer keg w/ a spigot, which helps me with splitting the batch to add extract, just doesn't help with the priming solution as it only holds 2.5gal. Actually I suppose I could...

Had to use bottling bucket as primary, need some help.

I don't have another bottling bucket, wish I did. Planned on ordering one this week, but my last shipment was very slow for some reason. I may stop by my LHBS, which isn't so local, and buy one from them. My hope is that the other primary cleans up. I have it soaking in vinegar and water...

Had to use bottling bucket as primary, need some help.

Agreed. Maybe I'll just acquire some more growlers. I have at least a week before I will bottle, maybe longer depending on my hydrometer readings. Should be ample time to load up on some Home Brew from a local place here in NM and create empty growlers.

Had to use bottling bucket as primary, need some help.

As some of you may have read in a previous post of mine, last week I had a mishap with one of my fermenters and had to use a bottling bucket for one of my batches. No big deal, I have read about using a wedge to keep the trub away from the spigot when I bottle. My concern and request for...

    Three questions about Midwest kits

Not Coastal Wheat but Boundry Waters Wheat. Sorry I was confused.

    What happened to my Primary?

I was brewing Saturday, two 5 gallon batches. Got my first one sealed and set aside and began wrapping up my second in record time. I went to get my second fermenter which is a 6.5 plastic bucket from Midwest, and realized that it had water in it. My previous brew day was a week before and...

    Three questions about Midwest kits

Saturday was my brew day and I completed 2 five gallon batches. My brew day went like this; Proper sanitation of everything to start the day Brewed the Midwest Watney's Cream stout Re-sanitized everything Took aluminum kettle that I had just used, cleaned with a sponge, very little...

    This sucks 1st time bottling

O'Dell Brewing Co. bottles are my absolute favorites to re-use. First and foremost, the beer is really good IMO, I particularly like 90 Schilling. Secondly the labels literally fall off the bottle with little to no effort. I often grab the base of the bottle and as I pull it out of the water...

Need a Vet's opinion on bottling

Actually SWIMBO just returned from the store with a bunch of mixers in qt sized plastic bottles. Will just clean and sanitize them as they become empty. Thanks for the input.

Need a Vet's opinion on bottling

Thanks for the advice. I kind of assumed that would be the answer. Do I run any risk letting it set in the 5 gallon bottling bucket (capped) for 3-4 days? Not sure what I'll do. I did manage to find one last growler hanging out in my garage that I am sanitizing now, so that only leaves me a...

Need a Vet's opinion on bottling

So I'm bottling my Autumn Amber Ale right now, however I have ran out of bottles, caps, and growlers to fill. I have 6 of the larger Mr. Beer plastic bottles w/ twist on caps available however they previously housed a Lacto-infected Coconut Stout. I tried it one last time today and it was...

    Green Chile Ale bottled

Sorry for the double post if you read one of my other questions today. Thought it was worthy of it's own thread since there isn't a ton of information on brewing with Chile's that I saw on the site. I have only sampled at this point and won't have the final judgement for another 6 days or so...

Did I brew a Near-Beer? Help the Hydrometer Challenged.

Dangit, I always try to be thourough in my posts, but always seem to leave out vital details, lol. They always sound way too wordy when I read them back. It was a LME kit, followed the directions exactly. It was a partial boil, topped off with about 1/3 gallon of tap water to reach 5...

Did I brew a Near-Beer? Help the Hydrometer Challenged.

I have a question about Gravity readings first, then hoping you could check my math and/or correct me where I may have some bad assumptions. My question is this; I often read on here that people were "right on target" in ref to their SG/FG, where do these "target" numbers come from? I...

Transferring beer to a secondary question

I bottled on Thursday and the sample I had was great. I went ahead and added 3 more Chile's for the last 4 days and may have went a little overboard, lol. The heat is up there, not on the tounge but the back of the throat. All I can say is, it's a good thing I like really spicy things, should...

Many mistakes, wondering if my brew will survive

That link is a great resource and fun read, thanks for posting. You would think with about 30 batches under my belt (albeit in the small Mr. Beer Kit) that I would be a little less paranoid. Different brewing process, but similar principles. The secret ingridient is patience and confidence, lol.
