    Using Amaranth to Homebrew

Hi, my wife and I have a farm share through a CSA and they are offering amaranth. They have grown it fresh. Does anyone know how I could use this to make beer? Is it very different from using other adjuncts? How would I need to prepare it for mashing, etc? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using...

    Bottling in bombers

On Sunday, I'm going to be bottling a special brew to commemorate the birth of our first child. I'm going to be using bombers (22oz bottles) for the first time. Do I need to be concerned with leaving additional headspace or should I use the bottling wand volume for headspace as usual? Thanks...

    Whirlfloc Question

I usually ferment a week in the primary and two in the secondary. Anything more and I'll be cutting it close for the birth (with bottle conditioning in there too). Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Whirlfloc Question

Just finished my first all-grain batch and was feeling triumphant (nailed the target gravity, etc...) and realized after pitching the yeast and putting it to rest, I realized I forgot to use my Whirlfloc tab. Any ideas as to how hazy it might end up? I brewed this for the impending birth of my...

    Recipe Thoughts?

Just racked the following recipe: 6 lbs. Muntons Wheat DME (55/45) 1 oz Hallertau pellets (60 minutes) Safale US-05 over top of the following: 2.25 lbs fresh cranberries 3 oranges, seeded (with peels) 3 apples, seeded (with skin) 3 cups sugar (all put through the food processor)...

Looking for a good Cranberry Ale recipe

Rather than use an essence or flavoring, I think I'd like to rack the beer on top of my mom's Cranberry relish recipe--12oz. bag of cranberries, 1 apple, 1 orange (with peel) and 3/4 cup-to-1 cup of sugar. Just decided how much of the relish to make--double or triple batch? Thoughts anyone?!

Looking for a good Cranberry Ale recipe

When you split the DME up like that, are talking about the wheat DME that is 55/45 wheat/barley?

Looking for a good Cranberry Ale recipe

Looking for a good (or great) extract or partial mash cranberry ale recipe. The last recipe I tried was from "The Homebrewer's Recipe Guide" and was an ABSOLUTE DISASTER. I am having ALL the inlaws over for Thanksgiving this year and would like to show off my best... Thanks! ---...

Looking for a good FIRST mead experience

I've been homebrewing for about 10 years now, but would like to try my first mead. Ideally, I'd love to brew one within the next week that I could have ready for Christmas Eve, but I know some kinds take quite some time to finish. Does anyone have a great, flavorful recipe (thinking...

    Ben Franklin Tavern Spruce Clone?

My wife and I spent the weekend in Philly recently for our anniversary, wandered into the City Tavern and discovered Ben Franklin's Tavern Spruce Ale by Yards--one of their "Ales of the Revolution" series. Although there seem to be strong opinions about this brew on both sides, my wife and I...

Need some help tweaking this...brewing for an IMPORTANT occasion

I'm brewing for my sis-in-law's wedding. I have nailed down the styles I want to make and have been brewing test batches to dial everything in. I just got done with a Northern English Brown Ale that came out pretty unremarkable (tasteless). I know an NE Brown Ale is usually considered a...
