    Mixed Berry. Blackberry cherry?

I just got back to the States and want to warm back up to brewing. I found a real easy recipe in a book I have that calls for any 8 pound mix of berries you would like in the secondary fermenter. I'm leaning towards blackberry cherry. But I'm not sure on the ratio. Should I go 4 lbs of each or...

    First Secondary Ferment

Hey all I just did my first transfer from primary to secondary. I noticed I lost what looks to be about half a gallon of volume. When I think about it, it makes sense because I'm leaving a bunch of spent material behind. I just want to make sure I did it right and that much loss is okay...

Very slow activity on the second day.

I was staring at my carboy first thing this morning wondering the same thing. Thanks for the peace of mind.

    Beer sin...

Yea it says "malt liquor" on the bottle. So I actually have no idea if it has hops in it... never really thought about it.

    Beer sin...

I swore after I graduated the stacked cases of Busch light would be out of my life forever (though I saved all my money up for drinking good beer at the bars). I start my job next week and I had only been drinking good beer all summer, however, last weekend I had to resort to a couple 40oz Old...

    Nano Brewery

So New Hampshire recently passed a law allowing for people who brew 2,000 barrels or less of beer a year to obtain a license ($240) to self distribute their beer. It seems like a pretty cool law and I was just wondering for the sake of wondering if anyone knows what is legal to sell... for...

Chiming in from the Granite State

Not sure if the NH people know but there's a cool little website that lists NH brewpubs and hikes nearby. The goal is to do a hike and then have a local beer. There's also lists for other states. http://www.viewsandbrews.com/nh/

    First Brew!

Just finished up the boiling and transferring into the fermentor! I do have to admit I'm pretty nervous even though everything went pretty smoothly, except the huge mess I made. The next couple weeks having the carboy just sitting there is going to be killer.

    First Brew!

Thanks again for the replies. I believe I was misunderstanding the book directions. But I will follow the kit directions.

    First Brew!

Thanks Dano Just to make sure, I steep, then remove the grain, then bring to a boil?

    First Brew!

Hi Everyone I plan on starting my first batch tomorrow! But I have one question. I'm making an IPA. I bought a Brewers Best set of ingredients to make life easy. However, the directions in the ingredient kit say to steep the grain at 165 degrees for 20 minutes, remove, bring to boil, and add...

    Kit vs. Custom

Thanks everyone for the reply! I'll take your advice and go with the kit in the next week or so. I think I'll try an American Pale, but not sure yet. Thanks again

    Kit vs. Custom

Hi everyone I'll apologize upfront, I'm sure this topic has been discussed numerous times but I wasn't having any luck searching the forums. I've never brewed before and would like to give it a shot. Should I buy a kit or try and piece together my own individually? My concerns are such...
