Paid 98$ for a CO2 bottle that can't be filled..!??!

I posted this in another thread but no response and I need to know what's up fast..! I just took my empty 20# bottle to Airgas and the bastards said they couldn't fill it and were pretty sure no welding outfit would fill it because it has coca-cola stamped on the bottle...!! The guy...

    Head gone after chilling

I have an IPA that's been in bottles for nearly three weeks at 68-70' constant and it tastes great. At room temp I can pour a nice pint with a nice two finger head and it laces the glass down to the last drop albeit it's pretty warm. After chilling in the fridge to around 40-45 degrees the...

    Another dumb question about sparging

I am a tad confused on how much of the sparge runnings I am supposed to collect. Am I wrong in thinking the more wort you collect and boil down the higher the eventual OG will be once you get to your target volume of 5 or 5.5 gallons..? I think this caused my low OG in my last batch. I...

    DIY Randall/hopback

I was thinking of building something like this. Does anyone use or have experience using one of these? I wonder if dry hopping would be a waste if your going this route. http://www.maltosefalcons.com/clubgear/hashback/

    First AG batch.....AWESOME!

Well I finally took the plunge and after getting all my equipment together did my first all grain. I probably didn't need to make my first batch a DIPA but I'm a bit headstrong and that's just what I wanted to brew. Everything went great for the most part. My MLT worked really good only losing...

    Preheating cooler mash tun

How important is this..? Could I get away with slightly elevating my initial strike water temp to account for thermal mass of cooler and heat loss..? Would using a hair dryer be enough to heat the cooler.? I'm doing my first AG this weekend and I'm a little nervous for some reason so...

    Side by side fridge

Hey guys. I recently came upon a killer deal on a side by side and just wanted to know if this style was worth converting into a kegerator..? I know most kegerators are the top/bottom fridge style and can hold multiple kegs. I would like to hold at least 2 if not more.. Also, would it be...

    I just bought a 20lb CO2 tank!

I've been watching ebay for a while now and I just got in on an auction with 4 mins left and got a 20lb aluminum CO2 tank. I hope I got a good deal but I guess it's too late to worry about that now. $80 includes shipping.

    Question on thermometers.

My therm stem sticks into my brew pot about 4 inches which is directly in the way of putting in the chiller. Is it possible to cut some length off the stem? I'm not sure if the stems are hollow or solid. Would cutting jeopardize the temperature sensor..?

    Pre-chiller alternatives

I just bought some copper tubing to make a wort chiller but unfortunately I am using all of it to make the chiller which doesn't leave me any left over to make a pre-chiller as I had planned. My water stays fairly cool even during the summer months but it could always be a little cooler and...

Anybody ever start off brewing AG..??

I have one extract batch under my belt but after reading in this forum I am ready to give that up already to start brewing AG. Am I crazy for thinking this way or should I at least do some partial mashes first before jumping into AG? Here's the thing, I'm a bit of a beer snob so I like big...

    First batch and addicted!!

Hey all. I brewed my first batch recently. Went off without a hitch. Flavor was sub-par but the experience has me coming back for more. I have done extensive research in the field of homebrewing. For now I am using extract with grains but someday I would like to get into all-grain since I hear...
