    Obama is a homebrewer

Nice to know they're still brewing, that it wasn't just a Super Bowl stunt.

Wow. I forgot to add the hops. ...wow

Make a second beer in the same style with twice as much hops and mix them together. No idea if that would work, so don't take me seriously... but I'm curious to see what more experienced brewers come up with, just in case this ever happens to me (since I'm perfectly capable of forgetting just...

    ferm temp too high?

I fermented my first brew (an English bitter) in the low 80s a couple months back, was really worried about it. I was obviously unprepared for the hot weather. I wouldn't do it again... but the beer turned out just fine (so far -- almost three weeks in the bottle and it tastes great)...

    Is this infected?

Wow. I don't know what an infection looks like. But if I had to guess, I'd pick that.

    My First Batch of Brew

Thanks -- I've never seen one of those... but, like I said, I'm new to this. Is there an advantage to getting rid of the ring around the color?

    My First Batch of Brew

I was wondering about this too. I'm new to this -- just two batches now -- and didn't remove the krausen ring for either (until after I was done, when I cleaned out the entire bucket). Can someone explain this to a noob? Thanks.

    First batch bottled...

Congrats, I just popped open my very first homebrew a few days ago -- just 10 days after bottling. Too early, I know, but it was already fully carbonated and tasting smooooth. I had my second yesterday at 14 days... and promised myself I wouldn't open another until day 21. Can I keep that...

Austin Homebrew Saisons -- Any Experience?

The Wyeast site says 3724 can go up to 95 degrees -- but Wyeast and some of the threads I've read here say this yeast can suddenly "stop" for a while. But maybe this is a better choice: That's not part of the temp range on the Wyeast site (which lists it as 65-77F), but I'll take an...

    Finally took the plunge...

A friend of mine just brewed with the Midwest Groupon starter kit -- he needed a big spoon and a thermometer, neither of which came with his kit. You might want to make sure you have those things handy.

    Scratch Brewing The Hard Way

I won't be doing any of the coaching... I've only got two extract brews under my belt, both within the past couple of months, so I'm as green my newly bottled beer. BUT -- this is awesome and I look forward to reading about your progress.

Austin Homebrew Saisons -- Any Experience?

Yeah, I was thinking about doing something like that, not sure if I'm ready to "cut the cord" from kits just yet, but maybe I am. I think I need something closer to the Wyeast 3724 though -- it looks like that ferments in the 80-degree weather we've been having.

Austin Homebrew Saisons -- Any Experience?

Does anyone have any experience with the Austin Homebrew saison kits? I'd like to brew one later this month (a saison so I don't have to worry about high summer temps) -- but am having a hard time picking one. If anyone has tried one of these kits, can you share the experience -- and, more...
