    Make Ice Cider POST fermentation?

Hello all! I recently took a trip to Montreal where I had some really great ice cider and want to make some of my own. I've made regular cider several times and have a good recipe/process for that. Everything I've read about Ice Cider in the forums says to freeze the juice BEFORE...

    Nitro pour is half foam?

I've had a Nitro setup for a few months now and have used it with two kegs of stout. The third keg I put on it is an English pub style ale. When this pub ale pours I get a full glass of foam that then settles into about a half glass of beer and a half glass of dense foam. This pic is after...

    Cider served by nitrogen/stout faucet?

Has anyone here tried serving a hard slightly carbonated (~1.5 vol) hard cider through a stout faucet using nitrogen or beer gas mixture? I have a nitro setup and have been using it for stouts and the occasional English pub ale, was wondering how a creamy cider would be? Sent from my iPad...

    Best shutoff valves?

I've had a run of shutoff valves that used to be ok but now leak gas (if you touch them you can hear gas venting). I'm looking to replace them and would rather spend a few extra bucks to get quality replacements that won't leak then cheaper ones that might. I've killed 3 tanks of CO2 in the...

are gas check valves "one way"?

If you have a shut off valve that also has a check valve in it does it only allow gas to flow in one direction? My gas distributor has a barb on the end and I want to replace it with a MFL connection. I bought one of these: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/threaded-shutoff-valve.html I intend...

    Newcastle Cabbie Black Ale?

Has anyone had the Newcastle Cabbie Black Ale? It's a 4.2% mild that has a ton of flavor (and according to one website 25 IBU). I'd love to clone it but I can't find much info on the ingredients used. I'm guessing similar to Newcastle Brown but with a bit of black patent or roasted barley to...

    Nitrogen regulator washer needed?

My CO2 regulator had a neoprene washer that sits between the regulator and the cylinder to ensure a tight seal. I just got a Nitrogen regulator and cylinder (for mixed beer gas), does it also need a washer? It didn't come with one and I can't find one for sale. I'm guessing not?

Dual body regulators and pressure release valves

I have a single body regulator that feeds 3 kegs through a distributor and that regulator has a pressure release valve. It's primary function is for safety automatically opening at 60 psi to avoid an explosion. However I use it a lot when adjusting the set pressure. For instance if I set the...

    Back sweeten with preserved juice?

If a cider fully ferments dry, and you want to back sweeten, could you add preserved apple juice to add apple flavor without adding fermentable sugars? This would dilute the alcohol strength which might not be a bad thing in my case. I have a 9% batch that I'd prefer to be around 7%.

    Kegging / Clarity question

I've never made a hard cider but been brewing beer for a few years and have a kegging system. I usually rack right from the primary into the keg and do the "set it and forget it" carbonation method. This let's the beer carb up over 2-3 weeks and also lets it clear in that time. Is that...

    Brown leaves - problem?

I've got a 2nd year Northern Brewer plant in a large container. Last year the leaves started turning brown on the edges and eventually started falling off mid-season. This pic is about 5-6 weeks since they sprouted this year and I'm already seeing them start to get a few brown edges/spots...

How far apart should twine be?

I'm a first year planter and have read dozens of posts, thanks for all the good info! I don't have a yard but I do have a large patio so I'm going to have to grow in containers. I plan to use a few large 20 gallon containers with 1 rhizome in each and a fan style trellis to attach twine to...

    almost no carb in keg

My keezer was full when it was time to rack my last beer so I decided to carb it with sugar in the keg for a few weeks at room temp (70). Now everything I read online, in books, and in BeerSmith said to use 1/2 the amount of sugar you would use if you were to bottle. I used about 2 oz of corn...

    champagne yeast question

What would happen if I used a champagne yeast to ferment a regular strength ale, such as a blond or pale ale with an OG of 1.050? I only ever see people recommend champagne yeast for very high gravity beers.

    Kolsch ended up as Budweiser?

I just taped a keg of my first attempt at a Kolsch, and while it's a drinkable beer I'm a bit dissapointed that it tastes like Budweiser and is missing that slightly "grainy" Kolsch flavor. It's almost too clean and lacks any character. The only thing I can really pick out as a cause is the...

    Beer tasting in Las Vegas?

I'm going to be in Vegas for my bachelor party in October. I'm wondering if anybody knows of any places that you can taste flights of beers? For instance I have a local beer bar with 40(ish) beers on tap and you can get a flight (sampler size) of any 5 beers you want. I want to share that...

Whole Hops broke my stuff :(

I typically shop for ingredients on Saturday and brew on Sunday, so yesterday I'm at my LHBS and I'm super excited to see they have Citra hops, but only in whole cones. My recipe called for Cascade as the finishing hop but I decided to call an audible and substitute in the Citra (having...
