    Help with F.G

Brewed my second AG batch 2 weeks ago, Da Yoopers House Pale Ale. Fermented at 62* with S-05. My O.G. was 1.060. After 1 week, it was at 1.024, now after 2 weeks, it is only at 1.020. Yoop says she racked and dry hopped after 2 weeks in primary and I dont know if I should give it another week...

Clone for Trout River Chocoalte Oatmeal Stout?

If you haven't tried this yet, I highly recommend it. Smooth and silky, a hint of Chocolate. If anyone knows of a clone out there, I need...NEED...to try to brew some. Google was not my friend in the search.:rockin:

I thought I would brew my first AG today but...

Holy smokes, who ever woulda thought there was so much work involved getting ready. I could have kept it simple and put my HLT on my stepladder, and my MT on the shelf of my gas grill and the boil pot underneath, but noooo, that would have had me brewing today as planned. So I decided to...

Today I prepare, Tomorrow my first AG

I have finally gathered everything to start my first AG batch, I hope so today i will get my gravity feed system set up and ready to go for tomorrows big adventure. My biggest concern is my 5 gallon MT. I will be brewing Edworts Haus Pale Ale as my first AG. If I mash in with 3 gallons of water...

    Score for me today!

Sometimes, things are just meant to be... I went into town this morning to bring my niece home, a trip I didn't look forward to after a b-day party for SWMBO last night that involved homebrew and hard cider. My mission was to get her home and get back home to the comfort of my recliner as...

    Guinness Draft / Stout

I have not tried a stout to date and thought it was my duty as an aspiring homebrewer to sample one. I tried a Guiness draft (from the can) and i must say i was quite disappointed. There seemed to be little flavor, almost watery. I couldn't even force myself to finish it. Is this a "typical"...

    O.G. reading?

Batch #3 is in the books as of 30 minutes ago, woohoo! One question, I forgot to take my O.G. reading until after I pitched my yeast, i came up with a 1.056. It is a simple, light blonde for SWMBO and that reading seems a bit higher than I expected, does anyone know how much the yeast affects...

Do I need to boil for full hour?

I am brewing a mild Blonde for SWMBO tomorrow and I was wondering...I have some grains to be steeped for 30 minutes, The rest of the kit is simply LME and there is a 15 minute cascade hop addition. Is there any benefit for using a full 1 hour boil here or would it be benefit from boiling the...

    Hooked on Brewing

I have begun drinking my first batch of brew this week, It is a weizen (fermented 2 weeks, bottle conditioned for 2 weeks) It may be a little green still, but it tastes very good. My second batch, an Irish Red, is on its second week of fermenting and I cant wait to try this one. Today I went to...

    Drilling a Keggle

For any noobs like me that will be drilling a hole in their keggle for a ball valve for the first time, don't be intimidated. I was worried to death because i thought stainless steel was going to be really hard to drill with a hole saw, turns out it isn't. SWMBO picked up a 7/8" Dewalt Impact...

    Chocolate Oatmeal Stout?

I just finished brewing my Irish Red and am already thinking about my next batch. I am thinking of something that may be a bit more challenging but am having a hard time to find a recipe. A friend was over today and all he could talk about was Trout Rivers new Cocoalate Oatmeal Stout. It got...

    Should I consider a secondary?

I bottled my first batch on Sunday and after a sample i decided that I can make beer, dang it was delicious! I will be starting my next batch this weekend and i am going to do an Irish Red. I am on a fairly tight budget and was wondering if it was worth it to use a secondary. If so, which type...

    Hello From Vermont

I have been reading these forums for weeks now and i finally decided to join the homebrew culture. I brewed my first batch 2 weeks ago, a weizen extract kit from my LHBS. I bottled it this morning and i had to taste test a sample, if it gets better with age, i may not beable to let it carbonate...
