    Need Help

Thanks guys, it is definitely a boil off issue. I bought the new beersmith and it was set at 22% boil off rate and I never checked it. My actual boil off rate was 12%. So I end up with 11 gallons @ 1.057 instead of 10 gallons @ 1.063. I'm thinking ill just let it ride. Although I'm curious...

Okay, so I brewed all grain pale ale today, hit all my numbers right up to pre-boil. then post boil OG is supposed to be 1.063 and I only hit 1.055. How is this possible?? Anyway, most of you will want more details to give a relevant answer, I just need to know if there is anything I can do...

    understanding yeast starters???

Sorry for the noob question, but I had to buy a wyeast smack pack because my lhbs did not have WL yeast. Mr. Malty pitch calculater can be confusing with the whole "less yeast, more starter" option. I want to have enough yeast to ferment a pale ale OG of 1.060. I put 1 smack pack in 3300ml...

Pitch high krausen or crash cool starter?

Yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that it is a 11 gallon batch. Mr. Malty confused me slightly because it said to use 1 vile in 4000ml starter or 2 viles in a 1600ml starter, still trying to wrap my mind around the whole starter thing. Eastside

Pitch high krausen or crash cool starter?

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I am brewing today. I have 1 vile of yeast in 3500ml starter since Wednesday. Yesterday it was full krausen, today it has fallen to about 1/4". Can I take it off stir plate now and crash cool for a pitch later tonight? Or would it be better to keep it...

    House Bittering Hop?

I have used Columbus as my house bittering, but lately I have started using med to low alpha hops early in the boil like Cenntenial and Simcoe and then using Columbus later in the boil for more of a earth spicy flavor. Even in the dry hop, I like to use a 3 hop combo with high and low aplha...

    Dry Hop Techniques

Vinny from Russian River advises to dry hop at warmer temps. He suggests dry-hopping between 68-72 degrees for at least 11 days. I do this in the secondary and in a 10 gallon batch of my IPA I put 3 oz. of 3 different hops in evey 3 days, and start cold crashing on the 12th day for 3 days. Works...
