I have a packet of T-58 that sat out at room temp for a few days. I also need to get a mew sourdough starter going. This made me wonder if anyone has any experience making a baking starter with T-58 and if so what were the results.
My burner has a very weak flame and is putting off alot of black smoke. It's just a cheap turkey fryer burner. Probably need to clean out all the holes, eh? I figure a torch tip cleaner should work well. Any tips/suggestions?
So I have some T-58, and some pale LME. Figured I'd dust off the extract brewing skills ad make a Belgian IPA. I was inspired my Green Flash's Le freak. Any thoughts on hops?
Hey Gang! Long time beer brewer here, looking to make some spiced cider for the fall season.
I'd like something apple pie-esqu, you know? Thinking adding a few cinnamon sticks, and some nutmeg in "secondary" and back sweetening with some town sugar might do the trick.
Anyone have any recipes...
I am planning a day trip to Detroit to catch a Tigers game. I have a very limited amount of time for the trip, so it will be a fly in, go to game, spend the night, fly out type of deal.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get to the downtown area near Comerica on the bus from the airport?
Just started my first batch sparge on a Vienna SMaSH partigyle. Looking for 1.070 on the big beer (Centennial to 70 IBU's/US04) and 1.040 on the small beer (Tettnang to 36 IBU's/S33).
So far so good, first running just above 1.075
Guy just asked me how we get bubbles into beer. I told him I said "Hey, don't go sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. Like in a raccoon's butt!" Then I told him about carbonation. Natural and "artificial" methods. I said "Hey man it ain't enough carbon dioxide to choke you out or nothing...
Just wanted to share this beer with you all, but this is the best I can do!!
American Summer Ale, 50% White Wheat, 50% American 2 Row, Cascades @ 60, 15 and 5. 1056 fermented @ 64F 1.055/1.010
A nice, smooth slightly hoppy summer guzzler!
Next week I'll be brewing with a friend of mine. We'll both be brewing the same recipe on our own systems, then pitching different yeasts. The two carboys will ferment side by side in my ferm chamber.
The beer is a basically a dry hopped light American Wheat but a little higher OG. One carboy...
I have been having great successes with my humble little system, but any grain bill over 15 pounds becomes problematic, as I don't have a big enough HLT. I end up mashing in more water than needed, because I can heat strike water in my BK, but all I have for a HLT is a two gallon pot.
The...
So I collected my wort, then something came up, so I covered it with foil in the BK. That was last night. Going to boil chill and pitch today. Never done this before but I can see it becoming a regular thing. Anyone ever do this or have issues with it?
So...I had a helper during a planned bottling/racking/brew day. I asked them to give a carboy a good swirl...the one I had just pitched yeast into. However, the Belgian wit I was about to bottle got swirled. A little more than gently....
So needless to say, I didn't bottle it. All the grub and...
I have a Belgian Wit that will be ready to package soon, and the W3944 yeast cake is beautiful! I'd really like to wash it and split it up for my next two brews, but I am out of wheat. I am looking for recipes or suggested uses of this yeast strain sans wheat.
Third thread about the same beer, and I haven't even brewed it yet!!
Anyway, I haven't been able to find the "bitter" or "sweet" orange peel that I see online and in LHBS in any other stores, but my local slice store has dried "California Orange Peel" that appears to have been crushed.
Would...
Due to a drastic and unexpected change in weather, the 3944 (Belgian Wit) starter I had going got up to about 78F today, after 24 hours at 70F. It's prolly ok, right?
I am planning to brew a Belgian Wit this weekend. I am working from NB's recipe which calls for a single hop addition of 2oz of 4% AA Hersbrucker at 60min for an IBU estimate of 31.
I have 2oz of Hersbrucker but they are much lower AA, 2.6% in fact. Does anyone have any suggestions of other...
Happy Monday, everyone!
Does anyone re-use their Oxyclean?
I rinse and brush out my carboys pretty well before filling them with warm water and a scoop of Oxyclean to sit for a few days, then rinse them out thoroughly. They get a paper towel in the mouth and wait to be sanitized.
Lately I...
