    Mashing potatoes and rice

So I've seen data showing that potatoes have enzymes and can self convert. I've also seen complex methods trying to extract sugars. Has anyone just tried mashing at 155 for an hour and a half? I was thinking of doing just this, and adding some instant rice and then aging sorghum syrup during...

    American Wheat, beta glucan

I am doing an american wheat beer with a 1:1 ration of pilsner and wheat malts. I am going to try fly sparging for the first time and I am concerned about the "gumminess" of the mash. Last time I did a wheat beer I had a stuck sparge. Since I was batch sparging it wasn't a huge deal. I see beta...

    My Home brewing projects...

I built my sixth stirplate today. I am working out the problems with the magnet placement and the speed control. I had to take apart the 2x2 fan and rewire it. I used super glue and electrical tape LOL. I think I may keep three at my house. one battery and 2 corded.

Cut keg top for false bottom?

I thought about this when I got my first keg, cut and tossed the top into the scrap bin. I was pissed when I did a search and found this thread. Now, I have 2 more kegs, got one cut and I am drilling the holes now. I recommend titanium drill bits. I've done have the holes on one bit. Also I...

Thoughts on using Old Bay seasoning

Resurrection! I've been thinking this very same thing. My wife's family is from MD and old bay goes on a lot of foods in our house, and beer if a must have while eating crabs. I want to take a very light tasting beer and use some lemony and/or peppery hops and dose it with Old Bay. My worry...

    Need some input

Well, there is 5.5 gallons of "porter" in my closet. It smells like cocoa, looks like dark hot chocolate and taste like unsweetened chocolate citrus. I think maybe 7 ozs of cocoa was a bit much, but we'll see. I'm going to give it another week or so in the better bottle before bottling. I...
