    Need Simcoe! but where??

I got a pound of Simcoe and a pound of Amarillo from the same seller. It took about 10 days and the package came from St Petersburg, Russia.

What Beer Was Your Point of No Return?

My gateway beer was Samuel Adams Boston Lager. It seems that this beer has converted many of us... One of my favorite songs!

Anybody try those new Sam Adams yet?

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that.

first time home brewing want to do all grain

You could also talk to your LHBS to see if they offer classes or brewing demos. My LHBS does both on occasion.

first time home brewing want to do all grain

I started out with AG. I made a few mistakes but I learned a lot by just jumping in and going for it. Your first batch may turn out great or you may just have learned what not to do. As long as you keep everything clean and sanitized you should have beer when you are done. Be careful though, it...

"Graff" style cider on Oatmeal Stout trub

I bottled the stout today and the cider is now fermenting on the remnants of it. I can't wait to try this one!

"Graff" style cider on Oatmeal Stout trub

This will be my second batch of graff. The first had a good krausen and it stayed high for quite a while. I'll be bottling that one next weekend, I hope!

"Graff" style cider on Oatmeal Stout trub

I'm bottling my oatmeal stout this weekend and I thought I would try something different. I'm going to leave a little of the stout with the trub in the carboy and put a fresh batch of my "graff" on it to ferment. I think it will be good but ya never know! I was just wondering if anyone has...

    rubber stopper slippery

Starsan is slippery and causes the stopper to slip out. Just wet a paper towel with some 100-proof vodka and wipe the stopper. It will stay in now. I've done this three times already.

    Lemon peel?

Like Revvy said it's up to you. When I added it back to the wort I used a sanitized strainer to filter out the lemon, lime and ginger.

    Lemon peel?

You could pull a cup or two of the boiling wort and steep the peel for 15 minutes. Then add it back to the pot at flameout. That's what I did yesterday with the ginger beer I brewed.

My First Brew Day Good Recipe?

Don't worry about the starsan. It doesn't have any effect on the beer. I still had foam from starsan in my carboy when I racked my oatmeal stout into it.

    Props to Northern Brewer

I bought a few things from them and everything was well packaged. The Star San and PBW were each in the own heavy, plastic bag that was tied up. I try to buy local, but I would not hesitate to recommend Northern Brewer.

    I'm learning from my mistakes

I already have a second carboy ready to go. I'd like to pick up a bucket or two also. I'm hoping to always have a couple of them full. I don't want to run out of beer!

    Stoppers sliding out

I had this problem yesterday with my carboy. I just used a paper towel soaked in vodka to wipe the Star San off of the stopper and the neck. It stayed in fine after that. Just make sure to wring out the paper towel pretty well.
