    Washington Selling it all

Haven't brewed in about a year or so, and don't have any plans to do more any time soon. I'm in Kirkland, WA, and would very much prefer not to ship. For most items, local pickup or local meetup are fine - big things are local pickup only (as marked) All pics here...

PSA: Clean up ON BREW DAY

brewed a couple weeks back. I did a partigyle brew with three runnings/three beers, making for a very long brew day. being tired (and lazy) I decided cleanup could wait until the next morning, so I did what I thought were the most essential cleaning items (hoses, mash tun, etc) and left some...

    the mystery hop saga continues

So my mystery hops are now on their 2nd year, and they've really taken off. they've got the funkiest cones i've ever seen forming. Has anybody seen cones like these before? on a side note, my Centennials are doing AWESOME:rockin:

    when to transplant?

I'm thinking a little bit ahead here, which is weird for me. I have 4 new hops from cuttings, all doing really well (took 9 cuttings and 4 survived:ban:) I'm planning on moving them to larger/prettier planters for next season, as they're currently in 5-gallon paint buckets. obviously, i want...

    two plants, similar issues

I have a centennial (2nd year) and a mystery hop (also 2nd year) with what look to be similar problems. The mystery hop (lighter color plant in the photos) is significantly worse, and had more down-curling leaves. The affected leaves get significantly lighter, then curl down, get crunchy and...

    hops from cuttings

I started 4 new plants from cuttings this year, and I'd like to give then a good head start for next year. I was considering pinching the burs off (if they actually put them out) so get have more energy for rhizome/root development this year. What do you guys think?

    hops pole trellis

I'm in a rental, so I'm looking to build a minimal trellis at a minimal cost. My thought is basically a single 4x4 post (I only have 2 plants right now) I've seen similar builds, but I'm wondering how deep people are burying the post for best stability. I'm only hoping for 12 to 16 of height...

    next book to read?

I'm looking for a book to read about brewing and to kill some time. I brew all grain, I've done some recipe formulation and I have a pretty good handle on the process of brewing. I've read the free online version of Palmers book and designing great beers, and I'd like either some more in-depth...

    snoqualmie head

A few months ago I was at a football game and I got some snoqualmie amber on tap. The head on it was amazing. almost as dense as a marshmallow, and it lasted through the whole beer. I've never seen a beer with head this nice. I've had the same beer out of a bottle and the head wasn't nearly as...

    really dumb stirplate question

working on making a stirplate right now, and i have a dumb question (probably overthinking this, but...) what kind of glue is everyone using to hold their magnet(s) down? i'm going to be using two rare earth magnets from Ace, and they're pretty slick, so i'm concerned about the glue sticking.

    co2 bottle/reg near refridgerant lines?

I got a keggin setup for xmas, and I picked up an old minifridge to put it in. It's very simmilar to the sanyo everyone on here seems to use. It has the same refridgerant lines through the freezer box, and I bent the box back to make space for cornies. I know I shouldn't run my beer lines too...

    cooling shrinkage

I've been reading "Designing Great Beers" and when he talks about water volumes, he incorporates cooling shrinkage into his initial volumes. I might be missing something, but this doesn't quite make sense to me, because the shrinkage should be the same as the expansion from heating. In other...

    cleaning questions

I've been having cleaning issues with my mash tun. The mash tun I clean with scalding hot water and dish soap followed by several rinses, then a towel dry. I remove the braidand clean it separately. Every time I go to brew I find mold on the inside. Obviously I clean and sanitize before I use...

    braid length?

I have a 10 gallon cooler mash tin, currently using a supply line ss braid. The supply line I got seems to be too coarse of a mesh, so I want to replace it. The store I work at sells a stainless steel filter, about 4 inches long by 1 inch in diameter that looks like it would fit perfectly on the...

    one day (vent)

one day, i will get Pride of Raubsville (a la Bob) right. first batch i had to sub hops, didn't have the right sugar, so made a totally inappropriate sub of brown sugar, added the accidentally added the flameout hops at 60 minutes and let the mash creap about 10*F high (stovetop BIAB)...

    bayou classic

so, who's all using their sp10 or sq14 or banjo burner this thanksgiving? i've been on here enough that i almost think of it as a secondary purpose!

i have a dumb question about crush

and the search function doesn't seem to be working for me. i don't have a grain mill (yet), and i've been getting horrible efficiency (55%-66% brewhouse, very consistently) i can't figure out exactly where it's coming from, but i doubt if my LHBS grain mill is helping. would running my...

    i love it when...

had some friends over (mostly my sister's friends, but whatever) rum and plenty of mixers in the cupboard, plenty of new belgium and widmer to share and what happens? three of us end up fighting over who gets the chilled homebrew.:rockin: especially awesome since the brew i have ready is...

    grain mill motor

So, i've decided i'm going to make a pasta machine grain mill. and i really want to motorize it. i work at a paint store and have access to many motors in various states of operation, and of various sizes (from dead shakers and the like). how much power is recommended and what kind of RPM...
