    Question about parti-gyle brewing

I did a parti-gyle 3 weeks ago, and REALLY could have used that spreadsheet. Ah well. The only thing its missing is a way to blend and make the gravities a little closer to each other.

    Parti-gyle Monday!

Having done this once, I thought of that after the fact. I was trying to think about logistics of how to do that. I thought I would exchange one gallon of the high gravity stuff with a gallon of the low. All-in-all, I'm not too unhappy with the OG of either. When I transferred the high...

    Parti-gyle Monday!

Well, my second batch came in around 1.038. Not a bad gravity for an ordinary bitter. I did screw up. I didn't look closely enough at the Goldings package and it turns out I got 1 oz instead of 2. So I added an oz of centennial. Obviously, this is no longer a true-to-style bitter. It'll be...

    Parti-gyle Monday!

I sound pathetic being the only person responding to my thread, but here is my update. Batch one came in at 1.085, to which I added water to bring it down to 1.075. I just pitched the WLP001 starter into the oxygenated wort and, fingers crossed, it will be cooking shortly. My pre-boil gravity...

    Parti-gyle Monday!

I mostly hit my numbers. My mash was a perfect 152 with no loss. My first runnings were 5.25 gallons at 1.088, so I added 1.25 gallons of water to bring it fairly close to 1.070. My remaining sparge runnings were a little low, at 1.025. I didnt mix it, so it may read higher once I transfer to...

    Parti-gyle Monday!

It's Memorial day and what better way to honor our fallen brethren than to brew a Parti-gyle. This is one of the ways I can do a 10 gallon batch in my wee 5 gallon system. Here is my plan: One IPA at 1.070 and A bitter at 1.035 - 1.040 16# Maris otter 2#. Wheat malt 1#. 55L UK crystal 1#...

AG with a 4 gallon boil but a 5 gallon batch size

I'm not sure I agree. If Revvy is making 5 gallon batches with 2.5 gallon boils, it stands to reason that doubling would have the same result... no?

AG with a 4 gallon boil but a 5 gallon batch size

So, in theory, I could make double batches with my 8 gallon pot...

Help with off flavor and technique?

Sounds like what happened to me before I started controlling my pitching temps and actual fermentation temperature. I believe what you have are Fusel alcohols. What yeast did you pitch?

    My beer smells like chardonnay

After carbonation, it is really nice. The CO2 added body, if that makes any sense. It is dry, but still very aromatic. Amarillo hops are my new favorite. I only used 3 ounces total, but it really comes through. Thanks everyone for the comments!

    My beer smells like chardonnay

I brewed a pretty simple pale ale, all-grain. I think I mashed low, because afterward I discovered that my digital thermometer was off. A lot. It was reading 154, but I think it was really 148ish. I am not sure if time will heal this. What do you all think?

By "fermentation chamber" do you mean A conical or something else?

I brewed a pale ale with amarillo at 60:30:1 and it was tasty. So 24 hours later and my brew is foaming at the mouth! I attached the blow off tube this morning just in time to not make a mess. I have it in a water bath and it is still approaching 69deg. I (guess) I will add some more water...

I think I meant to do a half # of C60 and .75 # of the wheat malt. We'll see what happens.

    First personally created recipe

The Italics were a mistake. Honestly. As for the high mash temp. I am seeking a slightly maltier IPA. I used a Lagunitas IPA recipe as a guide. There were several clone recipes for this and 156 was the lowest. One had a mash temp of 160! 160 made me nervous, so I went ahead with the...

Hello from the San Francisco Bay Area!

Pretty new to the whole brew-fest. I've done 4 partial mashes and two all-grain batches. My last being a Ruination clone recipe picked up right here from someone called Yooper.:rockin: I will be racking to the secondary this weekend. On another note. I have an American Ale in a carboy...
