It ended up finishing at 1.018. The starting gravity was around 1.080. Its absolutely nasty. :) and it looks like a hefe! Oh well...

    forgot about my gravity sample...

now the krausen is super thick. Can a wild yeast propagate that fast(4 days)? The tube was clean as can be and ran thru the dishwasher with the base screwed off...and heat dried. Im trying to find pictures of an active feremetation with brett or something other infection based fermentation...

Second Year Hops grower - Prep advice

One of my second years has stopped growing at about 5 feet on the main vines and the bottoms have a dozen or so 2 foot long side shoots. Would trimming this side shoots that are About 6 inches off the ground be a good idea?

    forgot about my gravity sample...

So I forgot about my gravity sample on a PtE clone from Saturday that i pushed up behind some stuff after a hectic brew day. As I was getting my lunch ready for work I saw it and noticed it was fermenting with a krausen. It smells really sour but it's pretty active. I took the sample before I...

Weissbier 1st Place HBT Comp Category 15A

I just took another gravity reading at 2.5 weeks in the fermentor. Its at 1.012 which is fine by me. Its gonna sit in the primary anyways for another couple of weeks until I float a keg for it so im not worried about it. Gravity sample is good and has a great clover character but not...

Weissbier 1st Place HBT Comp Category 15A

I brewed this up this past sunday. I had the worst brew day ever. For some reason my mash temp was off and was around 165 for the first 10 minutes until I got it down to 154. Then I ripped my bag (biab) on the rtd probe. I ended up putting a spare piece of sheer voile in a bucket and...

Cool. Can you describe the fittings on your pump... I just did some quick googling after seeing your post and some people claim one side was npt and the other was bsp. Thanks!

Hop Additions to Rye IPA / Thoughts?

How much to dry hop is personal preference to me. Look at other IPAs you have brewed and see what amounts you dry hopped for them. If it was me I would probably throw in an ounce of each at least. Look at the recipe database for similar recipes and start from there! I like the color of your...

    Irish Stout Ó Flannagáin Standard

Just pitched the yeast on my 5th go around on this recipe. Hit 1.048 for 5.5 gallons in the fermentor! I only had 6 ounces of 500 SRM roasted barley. I dont think it will matter much. This is a perfect beer for a 1 liter mug!

Hop Additions to Rye IPA / Thoughts?

I would move the chinook to 60 minutes and the amarillo and simcoe starting at 15-20 minutes or so. Then dry hop with the citra. I have a rye ipa dry hopping right now that followed what I just described only dry hopping with more chinook, amarillo, and simcoe and it smells awesome of citrus!

    Gordon Biersch

I like GB...but my favorite chain is Rock Bottom...especially when they crack open their casks. If I lived where you did I would be hitting up mad fox brewing in falls church. I love that place! GB does have really dang good food though. I would take any kind of brew pub within walking...

    First Burnt Batch..

I burnt a batch with a 5500w hwd element from lowes. The cigarette smell NEVER went away. All of that amarillo wasted. :( I used the camco 5500w now that everyone else uses.
