Beard. For the first time in my life. Somehow on some unfathomable level, I believe it makes me a better brewer. 🍺

    Hop for Vienna SMASH IPA

I just did a galaxy / vienna SMaSH 2 weeks ago. Hydro sample tasted and smelled incredible. Fwh and a heavy 15 min addition and flame out addition. Did a 30 minute hop stand also.

    Diagnosis please.....

I brewed two single malt (vienna) brews a week ago. In the fermenter they look very different. The one on the left I mashed for 60 minutes, checked for conversion with iodine then drained and sparged into the boil kettle. I didn't start heating until sparging was complete. The one on the...

    Centennial/simcoe single makt ipa critique.

Thanks for the input Omahawk. IBU's are around 85. That May be a little higher than I am shooting for actually. I may also cut back on the dry hops. I can always add more in the keg down the road if I feel I need them. Thanks again.

    Manually controlled HERMS

Mine is manually controlled with a bypass valve also. The heat exchange coil is in the direct fired hlt. I love it. It's not very pretty but it works well. Would like to automate someday, but really am not in a hurry.

    Camlock question

I use type B with a 90 degree street elbow so the hose doesn't kink I then just 'screw' my silicone hose onto the elbow. No leaks.

    Let's talk outright frickin tragedies

I had a pound of hop pellets scattered on my living room floor. While weighing them out things went awry. The 'carpet fuzz ipa' turned out just fine. I have been mostly fortunate, knock on wood, Considering all the things that can go wrong.

    citra ipa recipe critique...

I agree that it may not be noticeable at all. Seems unlikely. I usually use a pound and a half of 40L but was advised to not use any. Its hard to mentally let go I suppose. I guess the 1/4# was just to ween myself off! :) I've read and heard good things about single malt ipa's. Can't wait...

    citra ipa recipe critique...

I thought about dry hopping with something different just to add complexity. Maybe that's a mistake. Dry hopping with more citra seems to be the consensus. I may use some columbus or chinook as well. Thanks for the support.
