    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

It's all about turkey today. A couple of 24# birds are on the smoker as I type this. Should be done in a couple hours. Pics to follow. Smoking with all apple wood in my stick burner. They are a beautiful golden brown...

    Stuck mash in BIAB?

I've had semi-stuck mashes in my BIAB with recirculation. I've tried slowing down the recirc, not much help. It happens every time with wheat and once in a while with dark grains. I feel your pain. I'm thinking of adding a mash tun and ditching the bag...

$500 to spend 60th birthday gift

Wow, thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm meeting with my friend (Gail) today to discuss this. Her husband (Bruno) is one of those guys who has pretty much everything he wants already. He is close to retirement and Gail wants to make sure he's able to stay busy. She did buy him a...

$500 to spend 60th birthday gift

I am helping a friend buy a 60th birthday gift for her husband. Budget is $500. I would think that a 5 gallon extract system is best as he has never brewed before. With the rest of the budget I'm thinking a corney or two as well. Looking for direction for best places to buy "kits" so my...

4th pic in the thread - sticky note on foil on top of starter flask - a reminder to not pitch the stir bar into the fermenter.

Brettanomyces! Sours! Oh sweet Odin's beard! WTF did I just drink?

I second this. Rodenbach Grand Cru is the perfect example of a Flanders Red and a great introduction to sours.

have YOU brewed an amazing beer?

I recently took a growler of my latest Pale Ale to my brew club monthly meeting. We have tons of BJCP judges in the club. I asked 3 experienced judges to judge my beer. They scored it 44, 42, 43. All said it was a "best in show" quality beer. I like it, but I don't love it. Whatever.

10 gal split batches but only one stir plate

After cold crashing the starters, which I assume is to let the yeast come out of suspension so I can decant some of the "beer", I would still need to warm the yeast to wort temp before pitching, no? This seems like the most logical path for me. I'll make a starter, pour into a sterile jar...

10 gal split batches but only one stir plate

I'd like to make 2 separate starters for my split batch so i don't have to try to pitch half into one fermenter and half into the other. How would I do this considering I only have one Erlenmeyer flask and one stir plate?

How many back up kegs do you have?

4 taps. Room in the kegerator for 8 kegs. I have 13 lock kegs, so I guess I have 5 extra.

    Home brewery

Check this guy out - http://www.foggynogginbrewing.com/ He has a brew shed, of sorts, and sells the beer out of his ATTACHED GARAGE. I've been there.

    No noticeable fermentation activity

I haven't seen bubble in my bucket airlock since the first batch. I still make beer.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

10 gallons of Crocodile Ale - it's a pale ale with Maris Otter and Mosaic. Almost a SMaSH but used Nugget for bittering and added some Carapils. 7 days into primary right now - checking gravity this evening. I expect FG of 1.011. 3 more days, then dry hop with even more Mosaic. 5 days...
