Have you tried this beer, or are you looking to try it for the first time? I am curious as to what you think of it.

    Gruit recipe

Gruitale.com is no longer a supported website. I successfully used that site as a source and I am disappointed to see it no longer works. Sad Panda :(

    Bog Myrtle instead of Hops

I am curious as to whether everyone keeps the herbs in during primary fermentation or only during the boil like hops.

    CO2 refill in Litttleton CO

I used to get my tank refilled at Red Comet. Red Comet moved, so I was on the lookout. My local liquor store has branched out into the home kegging industry. Liquor Barn on Broadway (west side of the street, in between 285 and Belleview) right across the street from my local homebrew store...

    Bog Myrtle instead of Hops

Time to resurrect an old thread. Feb 1st is International Gruit Day! I think I might brew a small batch soon and then maybe a 5 gallon batch for international gruit day. Thank you Lexus Chris for your research and shared knowledge. I am thinking about following your recipe except using...

Belgian Blond Ale SWMBO Slayer - Belgian Blonde

Tewsday Bruesday! I brewed this beer for the third time tonight. Contrary to the name, my wife drinks none of it. She is more of an amber fan. Anyway I am a big fan of this recipe. It sits in the keg and I sip on it every now and then. Not many people come drink at my house, I usually end up...

    Post your "Untappd" user name!

cerna348 I am a big fan of untappd, but I usually only check in to my homebrews a few times, and not much more than that despite drinking so many of them. But I did notice recently that some random people have checked into a few of my homebrews. I am flattered but find it a little odd. C'est...

Who has experience with coffee and chocolate?

I have made both a double chocolate stout and a coffee bourbon stout, but I have not combined the two. I cold brewed the coffee, which I strongly recommend. Cold brewed coffee has less bitterness and less acidity, so you get more flavor. I used about 20 oz of water and about 4 oz of coffee and...

    Carrot Beer?

My wife and I tried Hot Thoup at the GABF. http://www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits/the-brews/brewpub-exclusives/hot-thoup.htm My wife liked it so much she went back 4 times while I was waiting in line for the restrooms. She thought it has a very low alcohol content in it and she was surprised when...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When your wife gives you a hard time because you "Need to brew some more," because you want to save all 14 cases you have in the basement.

    newb winemaking/apfelwein questions

It is a federal offense to send alcohol through the USPS. I am pretty sure this is because of its flammable nature (try setting a beer or glass of apfelwine for that matter on fire). It is only against company policy for Fed Ex and UPS. I have never shipped alcohol through Fed Ex, but I have...

    Did I overpay for CO2?

At a fire extinguisher company, I pay $8 for a 5lb refill. two minutes in and out.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2011?

I feel like such a slacker. I have brewed less than a quarter of my legal allowance. I have brewed 40 gallons this year +35538 = 35,578

Pumpkin Ale Swap (DFH Punkin' Ale)

I was talking to someone from the brewery who was behind the booth at the great american beer fest. Pumpkinhead and smashed pumpkin both have the same flavor profile. Smashed Pumpkin has twice the alcohol (twice the malts). I thought it tasted perfect for a pumpkin beer. I probably tried 5 or 6...

How much to pay for CO2

I pay $8 straight up for every 5lb refill, take about three minutes in the door to back out.

    Local fire extinguisher place

I pay $8 to refill my 5lb bottle. (Denver area) If I remember correctly, I paid about $65 for a new bottle on e-bay. I think you found a great deal

    Joe's Quick Grape Mead

No way! do not boil the must! I didn't, the honey doesn't have anything growing in it, the juice shouldn't either. I just tried mine last week with friends, and it was a big hit. I followed the recipie, fermented for 8 weeks, backsweetened for four days, and it was huge hit.
