    Conditioning Question

I would prefer to condition at room temp, so I don't get any temptations to drink it, but its already chilled. Is it bad to fluctuate the temp? I think it would be best if I just left this batch in the fridge, but in the future I believe I'll basement it up. Thanks for your input. Oh...

    Conditioning Question

So I'm fairly new to the kegging world and have a tough question. So I just kegged an Abbey style ale last night, I pressurized the keg at 30psi and left it in the keezer over night at 36 deg. This is what I am wondering: 1. Should I condition the keg in the fridge or out of the fridge in...

    Batch or Fly sparging

So what is the plus and minus of each type of method. I fly sparge and have only ever done this method because it is how I was taught. But I don't know which is a better technique. Is one better than the other? I've heard that batch sparging has a greater risk of a stuck mash, that's all I know.

Wild Yeast activity, normal yeast activity, or other?

So I just brewed a high gravity red ale and for the first time reused yeast I had collected from a previous batch. I collected the yeast after secondary, and did not wash it in any way. I used a yeast starter and had solid fermentation with in 6 hours and high krausen early the second day...

    Ridiculous Attenuations?

Have you tried to calibrate your eyes? Most eyes are calibrated for 1 to 2 beers before accurate FG reading can be aquired.

    No carbination

I've been having the exact same problem and it's pissing me off. I considered the capper but don't see how mine could be defective. I also considered the corn sugar I'm using. Are you using dated corn sugar, because mine is about 4-5 years old? I've considered that perhaps that may be the...

When do I know my lager is done and ready for bottling?

Very cool, thanks for all your help!

When do I know my lager is done and ready for bottling?

So I'm pretty sure I made a mistake and threw the beer in the fridge a bit early. I only let it ferment for 2 weeks at 54deg. Then reracked and threw it in the fridge at 36deg. So I guess I'm just slowing down the final fermentation then huh? I guess I will just leave it in for another week...

When do I know my lager is done and ready for bottling?

So I'm brewing my first lager, and it has been sitting in my fridge lagering for about 3 weeks now. The air lock is still slowly bubbling about 1 minute between bubbles. Now I know the most accurate way to know when fermentation is complete is to take successive gravity readings until there is...

    Saving yeast

Thank you Froto, I have checked this website out before and it was a bit over my head, but I shall try and give it another looksee.

    Saving yeast

So I have just saved my first batch of yeast. Pretty simple and all, but I don't know how to tell how many yeast cells I have saved. I am still pretty new to brewing and have been reading the importants of yeast. To my understanding most ales need about 100 million yeast cells and lagers need...

    Miller Home Draft System

I recently bought one of these homedrafts. After drinking all that terribleness, I figured out that it would be quite easy to reuse the container for homebrew. To reuse it all you have to do is replace the co2 cartridge. I haven't tried it yet but I will very soon.
