    Anyone else love S04?

Ive used it for the last 3 or 4 batches, and every time it explodes, clears fast, and tastes friggin' great. Definitely my new go-to. Just felt the need to say profess my love for this yeast :mug:

    My Pumpkin Ale

Just brewed this last night, second year brewing it. Last year it was awesome. The last hop addition and all the spices were thrown into the cube (was my first no chill). Woke up today, and the wort tastes and smells exactly like pumpkin pie! Can't wait til its done. The "home copper" can be...

    HERMS, RIMS... why?

Is it for the tinkering? The hell of it? Does it really make better beer? With my cooler set up, I will maybe lose 1 degree in an hour mash. I can do a protein rest/mash out by just adding boiling water. Step mashes and constant temperatures seem to be the only real reason to make one of...

    Moving to Liquid Yeast, Recommendations?

Hey dudes. I have been harvesting and reusing all of my yeast this year, and I realized that, although I do like the dry yeasts, that I should have at least a couple of the "higher quality" liquid yeasts as well. Since Im reusing them, the higher cost seems more justifiable now. So... any...

    90% Efficiency... with home malt?!

Please prove me wrong so I can see where my calculation errors are! I brewed today with some more home malted grains. This is my 4th batch. My 3 previous batches I hit my target perfectly, batch sparging, with BeerSmith set at 75%. Today was my first attempt at a fly sparge. I actually...

    Quick fly sparging question

Yo! I usually batch sparge, but to day I'm fly sparging. I read that with fly sparging you are supposed to sparge until the wort is under 1.008. I mashed out and used sparging water @ 170 degrees. Should I take into account the temperature difference when I am taking gravity readings?

    Adventures in Malting

Hey dudes. I don't post here a lot, but I have been reading tons for about a year now. Anyways, Im seriously obsessed with brewing so I decided to start malting some grain. I could only find wheat at the feed stores (I have some unmalted barley on order from Colorado Malting), but I thought some...

    First triple decoction mash!

Yesterday (and last night :rockin:) I did my first triple decoction mash, inspired from reading Radical Brewing. I put a big step by step up on my blog... http://crampedspacebrew.blogspot.com Has anyone else done a triple decoction? It was definitely the best tasting wort Ive ever made! It...

Bad efficiency with EXTRACT batch? Wtf?

I have been brewing for 6 months now, and have made a LOT of great beer. I started all grain and have never done extract until today. I figured what the hell, everyone should brew an extract batch at least once in their lives right? So the brew went fun, I was enjoying the simplicity of...

    Windsor yeast.

Has anyone else used this and had terrible results? Two times now Ive used it, and it A. Smells bad B. Tastes bad C. Attenuates terribly (which I somewhat expected from the description) I think I taste and smell pickles. The first time I used it, I thought I messed something up. I have...

    Inconsistency from bottle to bottle.

Hey everyone! I have been having an awesome time brewing a couple times a week, getting as many under my belt as possible. I'm sitting here mashing my 15thish brew, and enjoying an amazing IPA that I made my damn self. My question is... sometimes Ill crack open a bottle, and its not nearly...

    Creating recipes with Beersmith

I have just started using Beersmith, and it really seems like an awesome program. I'm pretty new to brewing. I'm a musician and really love the artistic side of brewing and want to create my own recipes. I drink a lot of beer and am very familiar with a wide variety of styles, and I've done a...

    Steeping specialties neccessary with AG?

Hellloooo. Making another batch tomorrow, this time an oatmeal stout. I have seen people that have run into problems by not steeping their specialty grains, but I also see they are using extracts. If I am doing all grain, can I just mash em with everything else? Im using crystal 80, black...

    SUCCESS! Blackberry Red Ale

Just finished bottling my very first brew! It was all grain, AND I used blackberries, and it tastes friggin awesome. I feel so lucky that it turned out great, I didn't do much research until after I had already brewed it, and was worried I had gotten in over my head and that I must have fricked...

    Love at first brew.

Hello people! I just started home brewing 2 weeks ago, and I freakin LOVE it. I have a small apartment, so my first batch was a 1 gallon batch. I had so much fun with my first brew (red ale) that the next day I looked up a recipe for a brown ale and went ahead and made that too. The day after...
