    Festa brew

I lived in ottawa and made many batches of festabrew from a tore on bank street, and one in Barrhaven aswell. Now I live in Halifax and can buy them at my LHS.

    2.5 gallon batch

by that logic wouldn't giving the beer a shake when it is done being racked into teh secondary do the same thing? I mean once the airlock shows bubbles it's pushed out the "bad air" right?

    2.5 gallon batch

what if I when I go to my secondary, once it's full I blast co2 to clear the space? This head space thing confuses me, even when I top up to 23 liters on the glass carboy it will have roughly the same amount of surface area on top of the beer ( if that makes sense)

    2.5 gallon batch

if I make a smaller batch do I really need to put it into a smaller set of carboys (either plastic or glass?)

    Bottling from a carbonated keg?

I am looking to donate a few pints to a friend and I want to bring him bottles. Can I simply fill the bottles using the cobra taps that I have now, and if so is their a particular method that works best?

British Brown Ale The Kings Nutz Imperial Nut Brown Ale

What happens if you reduce the amount of water for the boil and the "sparge" I don't have a pot that will hold that much, usually after 5 liters ( 4 mash + 1 rinse ) I am about half way up, and once I add my extracts I am within 2 inches from the top of my pot. Would that have a major affect...

    Alexander Keith's IPA (Canada)?

Actually Moosehead is from Saint John, New Brunswick. Keith's is crap, but the original recipe looks like it would be good, it's housed at a local University in their special collections. Next time I go to school I will try and find it. Sorry for the bump but this thread showed up in a search

    cold crashing

I find the best way to keep track of anything in a secondary is a wax pencil,l write the date and type ect... you can pick them up at staples for less than 5 bucks. I do it this way because I drink too much and have a memory like an ant, and I have on average 4-5 secondaries on the go most of...

    boil?

thanks for the link and the copy paste, I think one of my issues is the size of pot (Don't snicker, my wife says it's fine :( )

    boil?

do you happen to know whether there are benefits to adding later?
  11. M

    boil?

yeah it's an electric, I was told that adding the extract changes the color because it caramalizes.

    boil?

So after reading through man threads on this board I have actually become more confused then I was originally. I make what I think are partial grain kits. I usually get a bag of crushed grains ( usually less than 3 lbs), a container or bag of malt extract ( either dried or liquid) some hops, and...

    Friends paying for beer?!

My rule is simple; if you come over and have more than three or four in a sitting, you really should contribute. The guys that drink with me will often leave a 20 or bring a bottle of wine or liquor over if they plan on having quite a few. They understand that it costs a small amount of money...

    Hi from Halifax

I just thought that the introduction page would be a good start to say hi. I have been brewing at home for about 5 years mostly with kits (23 t of wort then add the yeast kind of kit) in the last 6 months i have become more and more interested in partial grain brewing and I really enjoy...
