    Wine kit help

I've had a sample of the Wine Expert Cabernet Franc Icewine and I thought it was really very good! You must keep in mind that it is a 3 gallon kit and you will pay around 100 bucks USD for it, but is an icewine. One of the other companies sells an icewine as well and also there are some port...

    Estimated OG

It will be useful, IMO, to know this information for the purpose of planning future batches. I'll then be able to better determine OG effects from adding three cans of the concentrate v/s just one, etc. :) I had very little idea about this stuff which I why I asked. I'll be sure to take...

I want to make my first kit wine, but...

I appreciate the advice, Yooper. I think these 3 gallon BBs are going to be a very fine investment in my future. I'll only be putting this wine together this weekend, but I can already tell I'll be hooked. I've already started looking at other kits for batch #2. With two Better Bottles, I...

    Estimated OG

Ok, I gotcha! I suck at fermentation math, so must definitely remember to take readings next time! I'm glad to know about what to expect more or less so THANKS!! :) The next time I do this, I'm going to take a gravity reading of that frozen concentrate (after thawing, obviously) to help make...

    Estimated OG

I forgot to take a gravity reading last night. I used 4 US Gallons of Whole Foods Organic apple juice plus one 12oz can of Kroger concentrated apple juice. I'm estimating around 1.080...does this sound close? I'm not sure how thick that concentrate is, but I read 70 Brix somewhere online...

I want to make my first kit wine, but...

Ok, how does this process sound? -Primary in the bucket -Transfer to 1Gal glass jugs for secondary -transfer back into bucket to degass with drill whip, careful not to aerate -back to glass bottles to clairify -bottle and age Am I on the right track here?

I want to make my first kit wine, but...

I cannot handle a carboy due to a disability, so I guess I'll be making bad wine. Thanks for the responses...I'm going to try the wine, but suppose I should just stick with beer based on feedback. ...live and learn. I had to end up getting the Washington Merlot w/grape skins due to cost and...

I want to make my first kit wine, but...

Hello everyone, I'm an experienced brewer and mead maker, wanting to purchase my first wine kit this weekend and I have a couple of concerns. I do not use carboys/better bottles and have no desire to start. Do any of you use plastic buckets for your secondary and notice any ill effects...

Will you look over my IPA, please?

This IPA has turned out just how I wanted it! It has a fruity hop flavor, nice aroma, very balanced in regards to bitterness, and it packs a punch at 7.7%ABV...just over the style on the ABV, but that's fine by me. 1.069SG, 1.011FG I fermented it on the cooler side at 62F with no problems...

Proper use of PH test strips?

Yeah, I just wasted money on these strips as well. Does anyone know if they will work to test if my Starsan solution is still good at least? I hate getting sucked into a bad deal, even if it was just for a few bucks. Maybe one day I will find a use for them.

    temporary lagering?

Great, that's good news. Thanks for that. Not being EXACTLY sure when I'll next be brewing, it will be nice to get a head start on the current beer's lagering :)

    temporary lagering?

I have a beer that is ready to start lagering. Will it adversely affect this beer if I start lagering it now and then raise the temperature in my chest freezer back up to 50F for a few more weeks while another lager ferments later on? I only have one fermentation chamber and I'll be brewing...

Will you look over my IPA, please?

Hey Z... mostly when I drink IPAs, they are good for the first pint, but then the flavors start to get muddled to me. :fro: They are complex beers but in a much different way than the other styles are, and it takes some getting used to. My neighbor and friend really likes IPAs and shares with...

Will you look over my IPA, please?

Wow, that's encouraging...I'll go with it, then! I chose the mash temperature based on advice that Mitch Steele gave in an interview, so want to try that out this time although it goes against my standard brewing practices as well :) I have a decent amount of these hops, so will brew again and...
