Looking for LHBS in Carlisle PA area

Thanks for the responses. I saw Mr Steve's, but it seemed a bit out of the way (I don't expect my friend to be willing to travel too far for this. At least not at first :D ) I'll suggest that he try Smitty's phone number too. Thanks again!

Looking for LHBS in Carlisle PA area

I've got a friend in the Carlisle area (Boiling Springs) that would like to get into homebrew and I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a LHBS in that area? I was planning on donating some "extra" equipment to him and was hoping there was some place local that he could pick up the rest. I...

Juice Bag Opener and tools question

I've got one of the Gilda corkers. I agree that it can be a pain to use (and I'll eventually end up getting a floor or bench corker at some point), but it worked pretty well once I got the hang of it. With the double lever model, I can't really tell if it compresses the cork before inserting it...

filtering question - boiling into primary

I've never used a filter bag, but before I switched to a glass primary, I did use a strainer to help clean the wort as it went into the bucket. I suppose a strainer bag would be pretty much the same thing.

Dragonfly Brewing Co. What do you think.

Very nice label! Wish I had the ability to actually draw something :(

    What would you do?

I wouldn't think your grains would go bad that quickly. I've kept crushed grains in the cupboard for a couple of weeks when I had to reschedule a brew day. Didn't notice any problems.

The big snip poll. Sore or not sore.

Like others have said, follow the doc's advice. I took it REALLY easy for the first couple of days. As in, I didn't get off the couch for anything other than calls of nature. Not that I was in pain or anything, but just as a general precaution. Didn't do anything too stressful for a week or two...

    Hi All

Welcome! :mug: Get yourself some basic equipment and dive right in! If you've been doing the research, then you probably already know what you want. Just pick up the basics and get started. If you enjoy it (and you probably will), you can always buy more/better equipment later, but the...

the basis of all lables from hence forth

Those are absolutely fantastic. I don't know why I never thought to pester my artist friend to design a label for me. Now maybe I'll have to.

What if I use apple juice for my wort?

I've got a cafe mocha stout that will be done conditioning in another week or so. I'll let you know how it turns out. But plenty of other people have done coffee beers. Search the boards and you'll find plenty of ideas/suggestions. (I added 32 ounces of espresso to the secondary for mine).

    Hydrometer foul up

Well, if it's reading less than .990 in 68 deg. water (and theres no air bubbles on it or anything) then is it possible you have really hard water? I dunno, maybe I'm grasping at straws here, have you checked it in some store bought distilled water or anything like that? As far as the wine...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

5 gallons of cranberry/apple/brown sugar variant Thread total: 1532 (for an impressive 5.8 gallons per day since Ed posted the recipe!)

I think I want to give wine a shot...

Well, SWMBO is a big fan of Rieslings so I thought I'd start with one of the Winexpert - Vintners Reserve kits. I gather that these produce a really decent wine that is drinkable almost immediately. A very good thing given SWMBO's severe patience deficiency.:D At $40 - $50 it's not too much...

I think I want to give wine a shot...

LL, Is there something goofy with the dates on the posts? Or did you really make the same kit as Walker, starting before he did, and waited a full year longer before bottling? That's some serious bulk aging! I know SWMBO would never go for that (at least not on my first batch). How did it...

    Flip-Top Bottles: Yea or Nay?

Thanks, I'll be sure to try your Apple Wine. Looks like a good recipe.

    Flip-Top Bottles: Yea or Nay?

Thanks for all the tips folks. It turns out that I didn't really have to worry about the decision. Seems that SWMBO has very strong views on this. Something about the satisfaction of pulling the cork and hearing that "pop". Apparently there was never really a choice, I just didn't know it. :drunk:

    Flip-Top Bottles: Yea or Nay?

Hi folks. New to this forum (much more familiar with the beer side) and had a couple of questions. I'm looking to try my had at wine making. I figure that I've already got most of the equipment I'll need with the exception of the bottling/corking side. Now I suppose I could just bottle my...

    Strawberry Ale label

Or perhaps rearranging the seeds to spell "Ale". But it's really great the way it is.

    Davy Jones' Lager

Love the label! Slogan is great. Not that it matters anymore, but I agree with your wife, the ribbon slightly covering the "C" in your brewery name gives it an element of depth and really makes the ribbon jump off the label.

    New label ideas

Ok, nice ones. :mug: I really like the Macho Mocha idea with the 30's weightlifters.
