just brewed the midwest supplies pumpkin ale

I did the NB smashing pumpkin kit as well, however I used two whole pumpkin pie pumpkins. Cut them in half, de-seeded/ de-stemmed them and put them in a casserole dish with about 2 inches of water, covered with foil and baked them for an hour. After baking, I removed the skins then I pureed the...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Yes one day when I had too much Dijon mustard on a sandwich, followed by food poisoning and an extensive night of drinking duck fart shots. Two things I tend to avoid now.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

The Beast is definitely the worst macro beer. I remember having a beer at a festival last year that literally tasted like vomit and rotting cheese, i spit it out and had to get a new tasting glass because i didn't want it to mix with any of the other great beers i was tasting. I wish I...

    Dip-It.. use-able cleaner?

So I work in a restaurant and constantly use this stuff called Dip-It to clean coffee and tea stains off of our tea urns and coffee pots and pitchers. I have had issues cleaning the stains and aromas out of my fermenting bucket. I've soaked it in oxy clean, PBW and even tried bleach (in small...

    Late Addition/Hop Utilization

So confused, time to RDWDAHB...I just had someone say something to me on my last thread telling me that ABV effects hop utilization, along with doing a full boil. Now thinking that I have learned from that, thinking its the best method, I come to this thread to find different. I have done 6...

NB Sierra Madre..Should I dry hop?

Okay I get it now. I have been using a little more water (3 gallons, rather than the recommended 2.5 gallons) for my boils lately, but using the full 5 gallons of water during the boil is the best way to utilize my hops. In that case I'm looking forward to doing a full boil the next time around...

NB Sierra Madre..Should I dry hop?

So a full boil is recommended for an IPA style (AKA more bitter beer), is what I'm getting here. If I wanted to do a full boil and wanted to keep the gravity where it is. Would I just add some more DME to make up the difference? Most importantly, will the beer still be drinkable when switching...

NB Sierra Madre..Should I dry hop?

What is the difference between Partial Boil and full boil? SWMBO just got me a new turkey fryer with a 30 qt. pot for my b-day, so I can now do a full 5 gallon boil. But, haven't yet. I was also considering a Partial Mash Beer kit here soon too. When the tax return comes in hopefully i'll be...

NB Sierra Madre..Should I dry hop?

I just brewed the Northern Brewer Sierra Madre (Sierra Nevada Clone) extract kit yesterday and I purchased 2 oz. of whole leaf Cascades with it as well. I have been wanting to dry hop a beer for a while and figured that this might be the best one to try it on. Should I try none, one or two...

Starter with dry yeast for a lager?

To make a starter you'll need to buy DME and in that case you'll be spending the 6 bucks anyway. At 1.047 you don't really need a starter, when using the dry yeast its not recommended anyway. You could just buy liquid yeast and not have to go through the hassle, while spending 2 or 3 bucks...

Do you Poo near your Brew?

I too use the bathroom in my master to ferment the beer because it is the coolest and darkest spot in the house. Works like a charm. However, I only pee in that bathroom, poo is done in the guest bathroom down the hall. Glad I'm not the only one who wonders about this.

Brew Masters on Discovery w/ Sam Calagione

I think the show is great and entertaining. I have just got in to the hobby 4 or 5 months ago and I am loving brewing. I read about half his book before my dogs tore it to pieces all over the yard, (obviously they hated it) but his story is what many business minded individuals would like to...

    Bottle Priming

I have drank some beers, specifically coopers like their sparkling ales, that have yeast in the bottle. They recommend "tilting" or "rolling" the bottles to release the sediment in to the beer, then you pour it in to a glass. Sometimes it adds a little extra character to a beer.
