    Secondary Fermentation - Help!

Secondary is a conversational piece and it always comes around full circle, down to personal preference. We have used secondaries, usually when adding something other than hops to the secondary. Cocoa nibs (stout), cherries (wheat), or any time an extended aging is taking place such as the...

No mash out = 50% efficiency?

You don't need to mash out as a homebrewer, I know VERY few that even talk about doing it. Theres something else going wrong if your only getting 50%. You could be wayyy over sparging, or your mash temps could be off.....There are many factors and we need more info.

    Big brew % 0f ABV

First things first.......in my opinion no beer should finish much above 1.030.....even barleys or RIS.......thats just too sweet........ Big beer shouldn't be decided by the alc % it should be decided by the OG bc the % is directly dependent on the FG. And the term in that case isn't Big...

    BeerSmith- Fermentation Temperature

Propane ran out last night 30 minutes shy on my saison

Temperature affects gravity. There is no way that .6 gallons yielded that many points off. What temp did you measure the 1.042 at??? If you measured it at, for example, 146 degree F, you corrected gravity is 1.061. More info is needed!

    Thoughts on big IPA recipe

there isnt a point in getting that high in the IBU range..........from what I have read and talked to brewers about is that once you get beyond 120-130 IBUs that you can't taste the difference. You might be better off saving the money on all the extra hops....... Made an IPA that was 105...
