15 gallons went down the drain today :(

I feel you... Not 15gal, but my first batch smelled and tasted horrible! We'll see if the bottles do anything, but I'm not optimistic. It had a thin film on it also.

    First bottling questions

You shouldn't boil the caps because it could damage the seal on them. Just make a bowl of star san and get them soaking before you start bottling.

    Hey, Revvy's right

This is my plan. I bought a bunch of 22oz bottles and a case of 12oz... that way I can taste test the the 12oz ones and waste just a little bit less beer.

    Show us your BIG ONE...

This thread is awesome... I would flip if something like that happened.... especially cause I'm fermenting in a huge cooler in the living room of my apartment.

    First Brew... /sigh

Great advice guys!! I'm already in preparation for my next batch. I'll let maybe half the bottles sit for a long time if the taste doesn't shape up, but probably dump half of them in with a month to free them up for the next batch. Great idea on the bleach bomb of my better bottle. I have it...

    First Brew... /sigh

Well I went to bottle my first brew today. It was a Morebeer.com American Amber Ale extract kit. When I took a hydro reading and tasted it back after about 1.5weeks in fermenter it tasted a little sour, but not horrible. (it also upset my stomach which I handed off as yeast) Today, 3 weeks after...

    Vanilla Extract

Ok, I have been searching around the forums for a long time now (my boss must really hate this forum). I am going to bottle my first brew today and have been looking at what to brew next. I think I'm going to go with Northern Brewers Cream Ale Extract kit. I want to do some experimenting with it...

What to do when you have to bottle 360 beers?

holy bottles... unreal amount of beer... special occasion? or just a bulk brewer?

    fermenting in warm temps?

haha... I use a huge 120qt coleman cooler. My apartment is sitting around 80 and I just throw a frozen L container in there about twice a day. My 120qt cooler is excessively big, but it will fit two carboys when the time comes. I'm also going to buy a piece of Styrofoam insulation, like yooper's...

    Wort Question

I'm inching down this slope... My space is limited, my budget is well I'm still a college student, and every day at work I'm trolling this forum and constantly think of a new toy I want... It's a dangerously expensive and enjoyable road for more beer. I've only done one batch and my gf already...

DOG LOVERS: I have a year to teach my dog to fetch a beer from the fridge!

Those videos are almost as epic as brewing your own beer.

DOG LOVERS: I have a year to teach my dog to fetch a beer from the fridge!

Solid point. Just speaking from experience, I had a lab at my parents place that I would trust with my life, literally. He was an amazing dog. I think he could have been trained to do this, and I don't think it would have been a problem with him going in the fridge. It's like a dog being trained...

DOG LOVERS: I have a year to teach my dog to fetch a beer from the fridge!

If you read the thread it is pretty clear why he is teaching his dog to do this. Also I don't get why people are so worked up about teaching a dog to get into a fridge. If you can teach them to get into the fridge and specifically grab the beer, why is it hard to believe they won't grab anything...

    Epic Dog Beer Fetching

I didn't even bother searching for this... Sometimes I hate how clever and informed this forum is lol

    Epic Dog Beer Fetching

Haha epic pic. Perhaps you are right and this would not be ideal for a home brew... don't want to shake anything up that has so nicely settles, but for a basic BMC I don't think a dog would shake it up to much... Still think this would be epic though lol

    Epic Dog Beer Fetching

Has anyone trained their dog to walk over to the fridge, open the door, grab a beer, and bring it to you? You know the movie Shooter? Just like that? I cannot imagine a more epic trick a dog could do. I have a young 8month old Shiba Inu and she doesn't listen for ****, but if she ever learns...

    Wort Question

Lots of people concentrate their wort, mostly because they don't have a brew kettle big enough for the full 5gal batch. I've only done one brew, but I made my wort with just over 3gal of water and topped it off to 5gal in my carboy after.

    Fermentation Chiller Idea

Does anyone else us a 70 qt. coleman cooler? Can you fit two carboys in there? I measured my carboy last night and got approximate measurements of 19" tall (not including stopper and airlock) and 12" in diameter. It's a 6gal. plastic carboy that came with a Morebeer kit. I can find dimensions on...

    Fermentation Chiller Idea

That hadn't occurred to me, but is a great idea. Plus it would help with the move I will have to do in August. Either way I'm still hoping this epically old fridge works out.
